I think early voting on the day unless postal voting and then onto the footy for the AFL finals which my team might be playing.

If not I will watch the Coalition hacks pat themselves on the back and say Australia as changed forever, seen the light, loves all their policies and we'll have 4 terms (like ALP said in 2007) and watch the ALP hacks point out the wasted opportunities and put the knives in.

Election night is a blood sport for the losers!

I know that polls close at 6pm local but when do they actually start counting votes?

Results are very quick now. I think the result of this one will be known by 7 pm EST.
A small polling place (<1,000 votes) should be able to count the House of Reps by then, but larger places do take longer. Whilst a trend may be seen by 7pm, this will be coming from a very small sample. The Senate is not counted until the Reps are done (at each polling place), so even later for them.

Yes, if I am right about a large Liberal victory.

(Not my preferred outcome.)

Is it still predicted to be a landslide like it was 4 weeks ago or is there some hope for Labour in the next election?

I will be in transit in airports Broken Hill - Adelaide - Melbourne -Townsville so will be postal voting.

ALP winning 51-60 seats is the favourite with the bookies. Not QLD-esque, but not close either.

I'll be somewhere in southern QLD flipping burgers and trying to get TV reception for the footy. Likely won't find out what happened until Monday.

I certainly voted early - ballot papers were sent off in yesterday's post. Now where will I be again on election day - that's right, in deepest darkest Kent, UK!

Enjoy and travel well in the knowledge the country will be in better hands on your return!!
