What would everyone be doing now if it wasn't for this nightmare?
I would have been in Nouméa again, drinking champagne on the beach of Îlot Canard inbetween snorkelling sorties and watching the sunsets sipping coughtails with friends at the Chateau Royale before dinner at one of many amazing restaurants which cater more to locals than tourists.
On the bright side, I have a new dishwasher instead.
A year without travel is going to pay for a lot of home improvements.
None of them look quite this good, though or be this much fun
.

Well thanks to Covid we missed our trip to Fiji earlier this month.

As it turned out we missed the end of our proposed trip being affected by the cyclone.

Friends of ours would have gone to Hawaii and fortunately missed being affected the volcano activity.

Stunning sunset backdrop for a drink!

And we would have been in Sydney with our grandkids today.Very likely as babysitters.

Today we arrived in Bangkok and are spending the next 3 weeks in an apartment.Flew SQ suites to Singapore staying at the Fairmont for NYE.

Just arrived back in London to wet, cold and windy weather. Just as well we've had 2 weeks of near 40 degree weather and some nice beaches!
And........ went straight back into a full lockdown ala Lockdown 1.0. Hello lockdown 3.0!

At least we had 12 days of freedom, locked in a hotel room serving our quarantine overlooking a carpark in Perth.

This majestic village sits on top of the escarpment above the villages of Broadway, Buckland, and Laverton. As the name suggests if there is any snow - then you will find it here first! What a view!“

I think that popped up today on something else I was looking at. I'm not sure whether to love it or cry. Just watched the Antiques Roadshow from Nyman's gardens which I loved

I am so excited - I have just arrived at the Qantas First Lounge in Sydney ready for my Business Class Award flight to Japan later tonight for 3 weeks of magnificent skiing. My best ever travel buddy aka Mr Seat 0A is with me, and also my daughter, her wife and their beautiful 4 month old daughter, who is having her first overseas experience. I even got them some award seats in premium Economy, so they will have a better flight than they might otherwise have done. When we arrive, we will be joined by our son from Dubai, accompanied by his beautiful girlfriend. My whole family together again at last after 12 months ❤️.

Weirdly, our son's regular trip back home last August to see family and his extra trip last October for my 60th birthday were cancelled unexpectedly because of some virus or other, and he's never met his new niece, so I really can't wait to see everyone together. Plus, after last year's very Australian ski conditions (read icy patches and dirt) in most of Japan when we were there, it's just total icing on my cake that this year's season is amazing with lots and lots of beautiful snow. I know that because every place I've ever stayed at in Japan is emailing me with enticing pictures of the latest dump. What a wonderful time we will all have.

Meanwhile, back in reality land, I am stuck at my computer doing Business Activity Statements and tax returns, having sweltered through a foul heat wave, with my fantastic trip cancelled, afraid to make a booking for even a weekend getaway in Sydney or to see my hubby's family in Brisbane due to recent arbitrary and sudden border closures, with most of my work (face to face training for Government clients) cancelled again for the first half of 2021, and no idea when I will ever see my son again. Over it does not even come close to how I feel right now. I know that worse things happen at sea, but I feel very meh right now.

I won't be posting in this thread again as I literally have no travel plans left that will be cancelled, and so nothing to say on topic - not sure whether to 🤣 or 😢 right now.

I'm just two nights out of Darwin on a 12-day voyage from Raja Ampat in the Indonesian Spice Islands.

Oh, wait, I just awoke from my dream.

And that's the last of the travel I had planned in advance during 2019 and up to very early 2020. :(

Don't worry, I still have lots of trips in the next few months that continue to be cancelled so I'll fly the flag.. 😏
And you’ll be able to feel like a real Australian resident with Boris’ new hotel quarantine for returning travellers !

Ahh yes, indeed. Just had another cancellation email come through today....... when it rains, it pours :)

Ahh, really enjoying the sun here in Funchal (Madeira) while those suckers in the UK still have sub-zero temperatures. Going to be a lovely 19 degrees today.

Yep... if only! Instead we're the suckers in the UK.
Just about to board our flight back to London, thankful that we waited out the sub-zero temperatures, as it's hitting mid-teens back in the UK this week. Perfect!
