I use the eftpos gift cards at AP to pay bills that don't get credit cards points and/or have a fee. Plus payment for some bills can't be split online. Would only consider Sniip for anything if there's an Amex deal (no ATO for me).
Kinda same here, I'm using Sniip for this one only thing which I cannot find a workaround: strata. I'm using Coles / Woolworths mastercard gift cards to pay these via Sniip, as they could be bought when they are on weekly specials, while I earn AmEx Edge points which is good, and these cards attract the lowest Sniip fee as these are gift cards as 0.89%
With rego and council rate, these are once a year exercise, I just walk into council, pay the whole year up front using EFTPOS gift cards from Colesworth. Done and dust for the year.
Origin and Icon Water but there's a fee. VicRoads rego online (and in store it seems) gets no points and a cc fee. Access Canberra (ACT Rates, rego) can be paid online in increments without CC fees but don't get points. I cop the CC fee for some bills paid by direct debit, eg Optus Internet, utilities (unless pre-paid at AP with eftpos GC). Whew! It's like a rubiks cube all this.
Not arguing with you, but just thinking how to avoid post office for these:
- Origin is only
0.64% for AmEx, that's $1.28 for a $200 bill, it's OK in % term, and it's $1.28. Like, it's $1.28, would you blink when you are told $5 for your coffee?
- Icon Water is
0.5% for V/MC, that's $1. Same really.
- VicRoads is only once a year at 0.54%. Good if you can pay at post, if not, the highest denomination MC / Visa gift card I know of is the variable Vanilla from WW which could hold a max of $500 (highest EFTPOS I know of is $4999), so I would use them if I need to pay less than $500, if over $500, I would do split payment using Sniip + MC gift cards from Colesworth.
- Access Canberra - wash thru Colesworth MC gift cards or EFTPOS gift cards from Colesworth so you get points, either walk into one of 4 outlets or pay online. It's a pain to walk into a branch, but it's only once a year.
- fees for other bills, I just pay them now. Not worth worrying over $1 fee.
