Which is the best airline to fly from Australia to Bali?

With the recent news of the Bali Council / Local Government considering increasing the "Tourist Tax" to deter "low quality tourists", it will be interesting if there are any changes to the Australia-Bali flights in the next 12-18 months, or if the proposal fizzles out and nothing comes out of it.

As for the first few posts, it surely has aged with the PER-DPS route not having changed much since the initial posts was posted (plus the 'epic fail' by VA applying for capacity on PER-DPS through the regional package).

PER-DPS is still a LCC orientated route today with Batik Indonesia the only carrier on the route providing a Recliner J "Full Service".

Seen some reports eventually that CitiLink cancelled all flights in Feb and also for March to Bali from Perth! This seems to have been kept quiet .....?

They seemed to have pulled all flights on this route from sale (including beyond March).

I have my first Bali trip coming up soon. I'm flying SYD-DPS on Garuda and DPS-MEL-ADL on VA both in business. Hopefully my Priority Pass card will get me lounge access in DPS. I couldn't bring myself to do one of the red-eye return flights so there's a flight to Melbourne that gets in about midnight before a decent sleep in an airport hotel before the onward flight the next morning.

One difficulty was VA only offer DPS-MEL-SYD or DPS-MEL-ADL with short overnight stays in Melbourne. Definitely not productive to a good sleep. Luckily Amex travel came to the party and allowed me to book a longer stopover in Melbourne for a decent sleep.

VA really need to fix a few things for me to consider this again.

We are flying Virgin via Brisbane on the way back in July to avoid the overnighter, leaves Bali 3:15pm lands Brisbane 11:00pm. Will have brunch with some friends the next day and leisurely flight back in to Sydney. Hate the overnight home after a holiday and feeling totally wrecked.

Having not heard of Batick Air before flying with them, I was wondering if I had made the right choice. They were terrific!. Very clean and tidy, plenty of room, something to eat and some inflight entertainment. They leave Jetstar in the shade.

I just read from a link on another thread yesterday that Batik Air is IOSA certified:

And there are multiple flights a day between DPS and SIN on SQ or even TR - typically on a 787
From there SQ/TR to AU
Good way to avoid the vomit comets

Why fly direct when you can connect
SQ has 5-6 flights per day on the route and all wide body aircraft.
When I go later this year to Bali I’m going on MH ADL-KUL-DPS all on the A330. MH has 3 flights per day between KUL and DPS but two are always on the 737 so I try to choose the A330

Honestly, having just done this - A321neo with JQ MEL-DPS-MEL, was perfectly fine. Set device up in the seatback holder with my downloaded shows, ordered a ham and cheese toastie and the 5 and a bit hours was done relatively quickly. On time and all very efficient frankly.

They're part of the lion air group so take that as you will. I think you'll find that if any airline operates on time they're all reasonably effective.

Batik typically use the 737M8 (again take that how you will) for the routes which are ok. Overall when nothing goes wrong, it's all good. When things go wrong is also when they're not the greatest.

This isn't for Bali, but try to avoid their a330 in Y to KUL. Its the ex-Airasia planes with the dreaded 3-3-3 in Y.

Yes. First trip to Bali 2023 was QF B737 J. Tolerable, but not ideal. Next trip, this Dec, is SQ J (VFF points to KF and KF award) will be MEL-SIN A350, SIN-DPS B787, same day. SQ tucker and service.

Why didn’t this article also discuss other airlines that you can fly to Bali on with 1 stop.

normally fly J to most overseas places. From BNE I always fly SQ J class and have found every time that it is cheaper than QF and gets me to Bali at a very reasonable hour due to the number of flights daily between Singapore and Bali. For example, for ,y current trip, I saved $600 of the QF J journey via Sydney which would have got me to Bali about 7 on where’s I was in Bali ny 5 pm flying SQ via Singapore. As you all know, SQ is a full service airline. Baggage is included, SQ lounges are available at all ports and the J class is really comfortable. The food is much better than QF, for example, on my return from Singapore, I use the ‘book the cook’ facility to order lobster thermidor for the meal which has always been brilliant.

SQ has many aspects that far outweigh QF and definitely Virgin to get to and from DPS.
