Which laptop for frequent traveller?

I see the base MBA is down to $1100 retail in Oz - not too bad by the time one factors Input Tax credit and deducts the rest...

Apple - MacBook Air

I am thinking of 'enhancing' my 13" MB (two years old) to an 11" MBA. Has anyone used one as a primary machine? I can plug in a bigger screen at home/work so that is not an issue.

I initially considered the 11" but decided on the 13" as it has double the storage, longer battery life and SD slot.
Though a bit heavier I'm pleased with my choice ;).

I also have a Sena leather folio case which I love as you can leave the MBA in it while in use: Sena 13" Folio Case for MacBook Air - Apple Store (Australia)
(It does, however, add an extra 340g weight)

Thanks for the input. Weight is what I want to reduce. My 13" is close on 2kg so not practical for extended HLO.
256MB would be plenty for me. It is just the keyboard/screen combo whilst traveling that I am unsure about.

I would legitimately stick pins in my eyes before purchasing a Mac for regular use :P

I have a new work laptop - Lenovo X230. It's not technically an Ultrabook but its light, fast and very well built. I'd recommend it as a traveller's laptop.

Six months on, I'm still very happy with my Lenovo X230 - if you want a Windows laptop. Of course, I am typing this on my Mac Mini at home :)

Without getting into the Windows/Mac debate, as there are whole countries dedicated to that, I am looking for a Mac that is light for HLO duties when the iPad doesn't suffice.

Cheers!

I love the Macbook Air 13' but colleagues swear by the 11' as it is more ipad size but with benefits of the Macbook . Try them both at the Apple store!

Wash your mouth out! Once a Mac, never go back.

I used to say that until Windows 8 (this household has been Mac since 2003). MacOS (and indeed iOS) is looking very tired - and I've been a MacOS zealot for many years. I'm gradually moving the house back to Windows.

I'm surprised to see that the Samsung Series 9 ultrabooks haven't cracked a mention here! I've been travelling now with mine since purchasing it last year. It definitely ticks the light box as per the OP (13" model), and has a nice finish to it too. Maybe something to be considered?

Well my 7 month old MacBook pro is back at apple being repaired for the second time.

So I've fired up the 2005 Dell. Still works (unlike the Mac).

MacBook Air, Jess - on my 2nd 13" one now - fantastic for travel :)
