Whingers

I promise to stay away from the Jetstar threads. And Virgin threads. And....

Just an observation. Is anyone actually happy around here? Nearly every thread is whinging and moaning about something these days. This place used to be informative and friendly. Now it seems everyone just whinges and coughes.
I used to frequent here daily, now I'm lucky to even look at this site once a week if that. Have noticed a lot of regulars have disappeared last 6 mths or so as well

I don't think standing up for our rights, or seeking to hold a company accountable is necessarily whinging. It's a case of 'not sitting back and getting walked all over'.

The chauffeur drive is one example... it was first raised on here that adequate compensation should be miles, or first liunge passes. And that's how it turned out... eventually.

We we also took on the issue of family transfers into inactive accounts. And got a result there.

If we hadn't continued to put pressure regarding bookings ex Thaland/China/etc... how long before the issue would have been resovled?

We have also had several examples lately of services being cancelled or classes of service withdrawn. Sometimes with less than optimal alternatives offered. I think there is a case for collecting these examples for a potential EU type compensation regme. Either that, or airlines might decide to offer better compensation on their own first.

I think if an airline is asking us all to pull together, to accept changes need to be made to preserve the airline... then I think we can rightfully make a case that this should be in partnership... not one way for an airline dictating the changes it wants, but not wanting to consider suggestions from passengers.

So First class is withdrawn from Hong Kong... why should we not suggest, as passengers, that former F class ticket holders retain their seats in the F cabin (but with business class service)? why shoud we have to not only accept a downgrade, but then lose the seats to status holders who may not even have booked yet?

Well it's not only on AFF that you see a whinge. One of the financial letters I read today ended with this-
Stand up the genius at Qantas
I’m not normally one to whinge about flying.
But I’d like to know, who was the genius at Qantas who thought it would be a good idea to put touchscreen gaming systems into the backs of the seats in cattle class?
If you’ve had this experience you’ll know what I mean. In this case the flight from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth was 15 hours of tap-tap-tapping on the back of my seat by the person sitting behind me.
I can only assume that the Qantas genius only ever flies Business Class, where that problem doesn’t exist.

Sounds just like an AFFer.

A company cannot be successful and be afraid of negative feedback.

Well - but - the argument has merit right?

What is wrong with a valid complaint?

It wans't me because I would have bene in the bulkead seat! ;)

Nothing wrong with valid complaints. People are too placid these days and accept all the rubbish that is going on around them.

No it doesn't have merit. Playing games on the international IFE is achieved by using the retractable handset. Most likely just someone change movies and such.

but we cannot argue with the first-hand account of the passenger. Maybe he got the reason why there was constant tapping wrong... but nevertheless the passenger behind was doing exactly that. And it is enabled by a touch screen.

if the screen did not have that capability (and what's the real benefit of it?) there wouldn't be this problem.

Probably should have turned around and said something, if the person behind it felt it was still ok, offer to change with the person behind them and use your own touch screen as well....

There's a reason they're, called 'touch' screens, not 'poke', 'prod' or 'tap' screens.

Well we can argue because it is totally impractical to play games as was claimed. There is no need to touch constantly if watching a movie. So the details are wrong and I can argue on that point. I've also been disturbed because of the touch screen. But I blame the imbecile in the seat behind who doesn't know the difference between touch and punch.

I have seen people try and come to grips with touch screens - one of the key problems is if there is any sort of delay between input and response... so lots of people constantly tap away trying to get what they want.

So it is entirely plausible that is what the man was experiencing. That he gets it wrong by thinking someone was playing a game (maybe it felt like that) doesn't automatically mean the rest of his complaint is invalid.

It wouldn't be tapping the IFE screen on a seat back from a bulkhead seat!

We are discussing somebody complaining somebody was tapping the screen in the seat BEHIND them. So YES this could happen to you whilst in the bulkhead seat! You said it wouldn't be you because you are in the bulkhead, well that's not true, you wouldn't be the one causing the problem but you could be the person complaining.

You misunderstood. It wasn't me doing the tapping. You are assuming I would be doing the complaining. I am not sure the tapping would bother me. A recliner would bother me. That is a known fact. That is why I would be in the bulkhead seat. Which would bother me more? Recliner or tapper? I can't answer that one right now.

Those IFE screens are quite poor when it comes to the tapping required. The older ones using the controls were much easier to play games.

You misunderstood.

You replied directly to somebody saying 'this sounds like an AFFer' with 'it wouldnt be me'. The poster was referring to somebody complaining about having their seat tapped on. IT is not me who misunderstood.

I can manage to use the touch screen without bashing the back of the seat. As such it is invalid to only blame qantas' IFE purchasing choices when operator error is just as much, if not more to blame.

The international IFE system still allows the use of the hand controller.
