Who changed my pre-allocated seat and why?

What time is your flight? If it is out of rush hour, on my recent experience the cabin wont be full so just give them a call and get you desired seat.

Tomorrow evening, 4 J seats booked including me, and when completing web check-in I moved myself to 2A, as 1A/C and 2F were taken

I know I wont' get an answer but:
1. Why was I moved ?
2. Since my preference is window, whoever moved me (assuming it was a person) should have spent 10 seconds going, lets move them to another seat they may want, not just to whatever other seat!

Pathetic and very poor customer service, but I am far from surprised really. I have given up on VA now, I really have

I'm beginning to think the seating allocation was a make-work project for the IT intern, and hasn't actually been connected to the reservations/checkin system. ie pax can shuffle squares for two weeks and then they're all thrown away and seating allocation gets done automagically!

I also think in the short term that they should stop bumping other pax just to saatisfy the person in front of them at the time. It makes me wonder if that cant see whether the pax allocated a seat has chosen it themselves, or had it auto-allocated?
And here in lies the problem. From my experience it would appear the move was not automatic and was done by a person probably as a favour for some other traveller.

Not good either way for an allocated seat to disappear unless there has been a change of aircraft.

It might be nice for our authenticated VA rep to comment on these seating issues.....
I must admit I have not followed all of this thread but has there been any comment from the VA rep on this thread?

i just went Platinum today from Silver last year, therefore have flown a lot this year.
have had numerous instances of being moved as a Gold - ie have checked (online) in the outbound leg and noticed the seat allocation for the return leg was 3c/4c etc.
as i dont have time or a printer to check in and print out boarding pass prior to gettting to lounge, have often been put back to 5/6/7.

what frustrates me the most is that (as happened clearly this week on Syd/Bris flight), some teenage kid was seated in front of me, travelling alone (he could have been 20, possibly, but i doubt it). i find it very difficult to believe that all the seats in front of me were Gold and Plats, as i was back in row 7. could be wrong i guess.
It does happen that you get moved from your allocated seat, if you dont check in prior to rolling up to the airport.

I was selected in 1A and as I have said I really should not be moved!

If the move was automatic I would/should have used my preference for a window and moved me to a window

If the move was made by someone I should have perhaps received a phone call/email/sms OR at the very least moved to a window, as per my preference

VA rep is not around at the moment, as it appears lots of staff are leaving VA.....

As I have said so many times, and I really thought I wouldn't have to say it again, VA do NOT know how to really look after their J class passengers

I wish them luck with the continuation of their "game change" or whatever name they put on it

I have had a few experiences where I prebook seats and then have them mysteriously changed for no reason that is apparent. I have made enquires as to why with no plausible explanation.

On one occasion recently I was travelling to Auckland out of Melbourne. I arrived at the check-in to be told I was in row 3 and my partner and son in row 4. Not good enough as I had preallocated seats in row 3 – with screen dump in hand. If I had not preallocated then I take what I am given but if I preallocate I want what I selected. Anyway the girl at the check-in got us into row 3 - after some persuasive discussion.

Arrived at the gate to find we had been shuffled back to row 4. Fantastic!! I went to the aircraft and demanded they sort it out, the response was the seats are taken and I should sit in row 4. I asked why row 3 was taken and was told because Gold and Platinum get preference in row 3. I immediately saw red and stated rather loudly that both myself and my partner are Platinum and that was a bull**** excuse. I proceeded to get off the plane and walk back up the aerobridge with my partner and son (very stressed they were at this stage). Spoke to some people up there and said if this is the way they treat status passengers then I have other choices as to where my business goes. I behaved a lot like a spoilt brat, and was fairly embarrassed after I calmed down, but honestly I had enough of them arbitrarily changing things without reason or cause and besides that I had not slept the night before so wasn't in the best frame of mind.

Upshot is we got row 3 (those in row 3 bumped to PE so sure they were happy too) and coincidence or not I got bumped up to Business on the way back with AirNZ. Whilst I understand the behaviour was not good I am sure they won't forget it in a hurry and maybe that will find its way back to those that take it upon themselves to just go ahead and change allocations on a whim.

Happened to me twice last week. Moved from row 2 to row 1 (biz).

Row 1 has the same leg room as 17B and as a tall person that makes a huge difference. Personally if I can't get row 2, I'd prefer a downgrade to row 3 than move up to row 1.

So I take it from this that Row 2 (in Business) is the better row. There is nothing on Seat Guru to help me with this.

I always take row two, nobody kicking or pushing your seat and you can recline whenever you want.
