Who pays for WIFI?

Of course I do when I really have to.

Anyway, that is why when staying in hotels that have an executive floor, I often find it is worth paying the difference. Wifi included in the rooms, wifi in the lounge, usually breakfasts, non-alcoholic drinks all day, some snacks, evening drinks and canapes .......... if I am on business, I often don't have time for dinner or I am just too tired to do anything about it. A drink, and some of the canapes (and in some hotels they are substantial) are usually enough, the breakfast is usually enough and add on the wifi, and I am sure I have done better than if I had paid the regular std room rate and had to pay for all those 'extras'. My 2 cents worth!

I see you are DJ WP - did you take up the Hilton Diamond offer?

With HHonors Diamond VIP status, complimentary lounge access and wifi come with it.

oh yes! Just stayed at Hilton in Singapore : have to say although the hotel is a bit dated, I had a great stay with really attentive staff. Bought the least expensive room I could and not only was upgraded but was upgraded to a one bedroom suite! Don't think I'll stay often enough in Hiltons this year to retain Diamond status, but, who knows?

I Travel a lot as a tourist, not for business. I do not pay for WiFi. Even small hotels in South America offer free WiFi. In New York I had to go to the lobby to get service. I find the ""Find WiFi" on my iPhone very helpful. No WiFi in the hotel, no business from me.

I agree no wifi no deal. We as consumers need to get tougher here in oz. cafes should have free wifi like most other countries

Agree Aussie hotels and businesses are woeful for free wifi. Europe are spoilt rotten - it is fantastic!

Recently stayed at my first Free Wireless Broadband Guesthouse at the Old George & Dragon Guesthouse, East Maitland. I asked the Manager about any restrictions and she said there were none, except NOT to download. As I was only interested in checking my emails, this didn't bother me, and I was happy with the situation. They gave me a code to use, and everything worked out fine. Since then, I now look for hotels/guesthouses on my travels, which have this facility.

How did she expect you to check email without downloading anything? Its all just data.

Add the LOTFATP to the woeful list (at least as far as anyone not getting FreeWiFi as part of a loyalty program), survived with AT&T package on the Android

I get your drift. What I meant was, that she said whilst I could download my emails, BUT NO ATTACHMENTS. Yes, it's all data, whatever, but I enjoyed the free use of WiFi, for a short period of time, and glad that I took my laptop with me. When o/s I utilize the facilities of the in-house Internet rooms, and it saves me the hassles of bringing my own laptop.

They probably meant don't fire up a torrent application.. They'd probably hit their quota one month and their IT guy said "it was too many people downloading stuff".

That sounds ok by me. Not experienced another free WiFi yet, but as mentioned beforehand, I now look forward to that facility, as much as the bed booking.

in this day and age I can't understand why the high-end hotels charge such exorbatant prices for Wifi. Whenever I travel in Aus domestically, my laptop has a Data-only Sim card enabled in it, don't need to bother at all with hotel internet. Perhaps they just don't see any value in trying to steer customers away from their 3G cards onto a cable network?

Overseas is about the only time I use it, at least o/s the rates work out to be much more reasonable than here.

How could it be used for INT WiFi access?

In what countries, at what rate?

Cheers
You have to put your non-Telstra SIM card in it presumably is what blu was getting at. Unlock it from Telstra then you can put whatever SIM you like in, so rates would vary depending on which country/what carrier in that country you were using (and of course if it is even compatible frequency wise with said country, but the 4G one have good UMTS/HSDPA+ coverage).
