Why did you choose your avatar / what does it mean to you?

My avatar was taken from on top of the crane on Tuna platform in Bass Strait. The nearer helicopter was unserviceable and had been moved as close to the edge as as possible. I was flying the one that was landing with the maintenance personnel that were to fix the broken aircraft. Not a lot of room when you consider that the helideck is 60ft (18m) square and the helicopter rotor blades are 44ft diameter (13m).

Mine represents 2 significant events in my traveling life:

1) First solo flight (never looked back since that day)
2) First flight in J

2 events in one photo, think I did pretty well that day:lol:

I'd love to say that mine is a pic of me flying that wonderful plane, but alas not.. I love fighter aircraft and the F-15 is one of my faves.

Slightly OT but worth it I believe. I was at Amberley many years ago and an F-15E came in to do a demonstration. He arrived at the airfield with an F-111 on each wing and calmly asked them to break off or he would burn them off. Needless to say they got the hint and that he did an exceptional display. :D

Mine represents my first flight on a A380 in November 2008, photo was taken as it was about to land in Sydney.

My handle represents where I live - YQY is the IATA code for Sydney Nova Scotia. SYD and YSSY were already taken.

I had a bridge ported 13B turbo charged and lots of ceramic parts in a S5 RX7 once - very very quick car...

What do you drive now? I'm carless as I'm never at home so don't really need it.

Mine is Audrey Hepburn, one of the most amazing actresses of the 20th century.

I love the pic as it's reminiscent of the days when smoking was all about glamour & style  I have no idea why I picked it for my AFF avatar though - it's different and unusual, haven't seen one like it yet :)

I've gone through quite a few avatars over time.

Sometimes I've used airline related avatars, with my username spelt out in the style of an airline's livery/logo.

I've also had random art from clipart sites a couple of times, a photo from Hawaii of a speed sign stuck in lava, and some other shots from holidays. Also had an IT related one a while ago showing C:\>

Current one I took at Giant's Causeway. showing a few of the basalt columns. I think it's interesting as an avatar.

Was hoping to change it to something quirky from Barra - perhaps one of the "keep off the beach when planes are landing" type signs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Barra-Airport-Canthusus.JPG) , but didn't find anything that I liked from my photos that would scale down well.

That was a few tears (years) back - I have a GT optioned BT XR8 now and a 330 BMW convert. The XR8 is a goer, but nothing on the RX7... I could wheel spin the RX7 at over 100kmp/h by grabbing a couple of gears , LOL, used to piss off the V8 holden and ford boys to no end...

The funniest thing I done was a VN shape Clubsport - we were nose to nose along a 30km dead straight bit of road, not another car in sight, I kept the RX7 slightly behind his front wheels - as he peaked, I changed down, not one but two gears and waved goodbye :)

LOL - the exhaust was a crackler as well so I knew he heard the gear changes... hehehe

My wilder younger days :)

Sorry OP - totally OT

Proud of my time in the Royal Australian Navy (a very long time ago). I maintained the computers of the Ikara anti-submarine missile system which led me to a career in teh computer industry. I actually pushed the "fire" button on three missiles. The photo is a shot of the ikara missile leaving the launcher on HMAS Yarra.

My avatar is sea at Moorea at sunset. Moorea is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Mine's a quite obvious bit of random clipart considering my handle, which again is quite obvious consider my surname (Cheeseman). I suppose I could use a picture of a particular pungent book character if I really wanted to ... :p

Mine is a picture of the late, great, pacing mare Tuapeka Star. :)

Actually it's not. :( - I couldn't find a picture of her.

It is however, the equally late, but far far greater West Australian pacer Pure Steel.

Mine is a photo of a Fantic 125cc Chopper I rebuilt a few years ago. My hobby at the time was collecting and rebuilding mid '70's 2-stroke motorcycles.

They were made in the mid '70's by Fantic Motor to cash in on the Easyrider/Chopper craze that was happening at the time. I don't know why they thought a 125cc 2-stroke Chopper would hold the same appeal as a Harley; they must have had better drugs back then.

Needless to say, they weren't a big hit, particularly in Australia.....

The picture matches the user name, I got the picture off the Bundaberg Rum product website, Bundaberg Distillery - Distillery Tours - Bundaberg Australia website had a few pictures and I was able to cut a picture down to the one you see now, seems like the original pictures have been removed and replaced with the past and current adverts.

I went to Bundaberg in 2001 same time I signed up for Flyertalk, and when I joined this website I didn't want to use a different user name, unlike some other people. :p

Mine is the Rutan designed Beech Starship, the first all composite aircraft certified and also the first certified glass coughpit GA aircraft. Sadly most have been destroyed to prevent product liability issues as it was not commercially viable, and I was lucky have to flown in one operated by a ham radio chain when I went to a Hamvention at Dayton. There are 5 still flying with a 6th chassis restorable to flying condition.

Back in 2004 one was brought to Australia and flown to Caloundra where she still sits by the late Col Pay who wanted the PT6 engines, I hope one day to hear the sound of twin turbine pushers again!

If I did not have the starship pic, it would be a Herc or P3, both unique and long serving aircraft that do their job as well as a starship.

Lifelong Geelong Cats fan.

And WEG's cartoon is much more appealing than the current Cat logo.

My previous avatar was the 787 dreamliner, which I have watched with great interest as soon as Air NZ signed up to take them. Todate it is reallly still a dream but i hope to fly in one soon.
My current is Molly, the fur child, who exited the living on 1st June this year. She was a Shih-Tzu with a personality on steriods. Long will she be remembered in her better days:)

This is an interesting thread with quite a few variations in how and why people have picked specific avatars.:D
