Why did you choose your avatar / what does it mean to you?

Mine is Audrey Hepburn, one of the most amazing actresses of the 20th century.

I love the pic as it's reminiscent of the days when smoking was all about glamour & style  I have no idea why I picked it for my AFF avatar though - it's different and unusual, haven't seen one like it yet :)

Which is now gone... :p

Mine's a quite obvious bit of random clipart considering my handle, which again is quite obvious consider my surname (Cheeseman). I suppose I could use a picture of a particular pungent book character if I really wanted to ... :p

I have a feeling I may know you. The reference to a certain book says it all. I remember you renting it out from a certain primary school library. :)

Anyway, mine are selected at random based on interesting pictures I stumble across. There's really nothing more to it than that

for my username, I wanted something that didn't map directly back to my real name, but with a cryptic connection. I selected Dot because there is a famous Dot (as in Dorothy) that shares (almost) a surname with me. My early avatars were of that Dot, which probably contributed to a number of FTers thinking I was female before I flew in from ICN to my first FT Annual event at BNE.

Since then, I have had a number of avatars which included a 1950s QANTAS beer coaster, and a single black dot which I had for quite a long time. For the month of Movember, I altered that to a big black dot with a Mo. Earlier this year, I figured it was time for a change, so I used a photo of my passport given these days, the only domestic travel I do is to catch or get home from an International flight - I thought it was apt.

A bit OT, but my passport (per my avatar) has Gold embossing on the cover, but plenty I have seen recently have silver - I am wondering if that is because I opted for the extra pages and all the extra page passports have gold. Perhaps, it is the Dept of Immigration rewarding my many international trips with Gold status??? :D

Mine's me - how boring!

It was taken at a political meeting a decade or so ago, and I liked the way I smiled in it. The tie has an Australian flag motif, and I could have sold it a dozen times over, that day.

Other avatars, I've got one of me against a bridge, one with a great white coughatoo on my shoulder, a plate of hogjowls, one of a group of roadtrippers, other ones I pick from time to time, such as a sprig of wattle when a smile isn't appropriate.

The sig pic is my co-driver, Ringbear. He's been around the world six or seven times and gets photographed a lot. Here he is flying into Narita aboard a QF B767. I asked one of the cabin crew if they would pose with him, and she took him and the camera into the coughpit, and the flight crew must have welcomed the chance to relieve the boredom, because I got a dozen fabulous shots of him on the dashboard, on the throttles, wearing caps....

The screen name is one I've used for decades. My father nearly bought a dairy farm at Skyring Creek, which is a little patch of paradise with platypodes north of Eumundi. I loved the name and am glad the sale fell through and I spent my teenaged mornings in bed, reading, instead of squeezing teats.

I had Dr Nick from the Simpsons for ages, now the Turk-JD conjoined Doctor from Scrubs.

Both reflect how I feel some days.......

Mine is a pic of (what I think is) a funny t-shirt I saw.

Didn't have an avatar for a while, but decided to put up one of my favourite photos - midtown Manhattan and central park on a summer's afternoon as seen from seat 23A on a QF 107 744 transcon service (whose days are now sadly over).

Why? I loved the flight, the service, the plane, the seat, the view and the city. Took it on my first iPhone just after its US release, so that wasn't a bad result either.

I have updated my avatar to a picture of my Son, and this photo does have an interesting aviation link, the photographers wife is a FA with QF, he does awesome work with kids and is based on the Redcliffe Peninsula!

What the hey, I'll jump in.

My avatar is my turtle Dash - the perfect travel fans pet! Can be left for weeks at a time with little to no care or attention.

Bumping a 1 year old thread may mean some of the pictures might have changed.

My current picture is an 18foot skiff. The boat was originally sponsored by Optus World, but parts of the rig and the spinnaker were originally off a boat sponsored by Bundaberg Rum.

Yes I am in the picture, which was taken in 1997, before the web really got going and even before I had a frequent flyer number.

Well my original avatar wasn't very original. But early this year we went to Antarctica.Certainly a magnificent spot. But on the way back to Dunedin we spent a day on Macquarie Island. It was there I met this fellow-a Royal penguin.
He sums me up.First being Royal-goes with my surname. Then he looked me over from all directions-

But it was when he looked at me from upside down it was then i realised he was expressing my feelings-always try and see things from anothers perspective.he of course is much better at that than I,but i do try.Or I am very trying as mrsdrron is wont to say.So there it is-

Mine is Afghanistan from QF5. Why, because it's special. Normally QF5 flys this part of the world in the dark. I was just "lucky" to take it, with the whole family, when it was delayed about 6 hours in 2007. In fact, flightstats (or similar) listed 6 hours as the maximum delay for QF5 at one stage.

The delay then prompted me to call qantas a few times and on one if those calls the person I spoke to recommended AFF.

Besides seeing some great scenery, afghanistan and etc., and the caspian sea, that flight also represents a whole heap of things.

  • flying around the world with a 6 and 3 year old, who turned out to be amazing travellers that took a 6 hour delay in their stride.
  • the calmness of the kids - did I mention that?
  • my tired and emotional moment at FRA when rearranging the train to Paris.
  • the kids paying out dad for being tired and emotional
  • great afternoon in Karlsruhe, as a result of having to rearrange trains to Paris
  • champagne coughtail reception at the Paris hotel - hence starting my relationship with fine French bubbles.

Mine is a room number from a certain hotel in Los Angeles. They only had 707 and 717, so thought it was cute (especially in the name tag format). Would have rather 777 ;)

Mine, if it isn't obvious. Is the Qantas First Lounge in Sydney?

Why? A couple of members were suggesting I get a pic, I goggled Frequent Flyer and that was the first image that came up.

I've stuck with it ever since.

My Avatar is of a TWA Super Constellation (Connie) in which I made my first international flight New York to Rome and return in 1954. Was 8 at the time (was as tall as a 12 year old) and my uncle was the pilot. Sat in the right seat for about 2 hours and was shown how to fly a Connie. I also worked with the flight mechanic on his preflight checks. Yes Connies did carry flight mechanics.
