why is row 4 open to gold members at T80 - is this new?

I don't know, i have been in row 4 and noticed a black CL tag going to row 5 or 6. Monday morning flights from Adelaide are pretty heavy as well. ...

Maybe there is a window of opportunity, hence my use above of the preface "... once Altéa is fully invoked for a flight ...". Or, perhaps, you simply have a high PCV?

However I usually have very few forward bookings - rarely more than one, although I travel every month. So if PCV is weighted towards FUTURE spend via looking at bookings in the system then I'd score badly - any insights out there on the balance between past and future spend??

I imagine it is all secret stuff, that only the people in Qantas know exactly. But I suspect that Past (your status), then current (your fare this flight), and future (already booked) in that order.

I wish I could say more but it has been made clear my views are meaningless. But I will be checking next week. Maybe I'll get a rude surprise, it is my first qantas flight for a few weeks.

I would say then that you have a much higher PCV than me.

We are both Platinum and I struggle to get row 4, row 23 on some flights where as you can get them on every single flight without fail. This week I have been able to get 4C on both flights at ~T-80 hours. What would be nice is to be able to see allocated seats before T-80 hours to be able to assess whether the seat is actually allocated or simply blocked.

A you can see from the first few posts of this thread, a tool like E/F or KVS can provide that information.

I know ExpertFlyer provides that information but I was referring to the seat map displayed on QF bookings. At the moment all I can see is row 4,5 blocked.

It could very well be that Qantas in their wisdom have decided that sort of information is not for the general passenger. ("Mushroom diet" etc ...)

PCV must be bollocks then, because I've had anywhere up to twenty forward bookings on flexi fares as a WP, and usually flown during off-peak times, and never had row 4 before T80.

Furthermore, much of the time when I get to the Club and ask, I'm able to be seated in row 4.

As far as I am aware a Platinum cannot allocate seats before T-80 hours regardless of their PCV.

Furthermore, much of the time when I get to the Club and ask, I'm able to be seated in row 4.

Which is what I have been saying for a long time when I have seen no status passengers sitting in row 4 or row 23.

This has more to do with the assumption that the travellers in those seats are usually high ranking passengers on flexible tickets moving to earlier flights or requesting ODUs at the lounge thereby freeing up the premium seats in economy at a very late stage.

It is a time limited thing, my theory says it's not due to my profile.

I might have exaggerated slightly, only about 80% to 90% of the time. But I also fly on the absolutely cheapest fare possible and this year I have really cut down my forward bookings and I've diverted a large number of flights to DJ. So I really don't think my PCV would be very high.

Exactly - Altea does not come into play until after T-80. Until then out appears to be a zonal system.

As P1 I get open access to all unelected seats at booking. Still don't know whY there was a SG next to me with plenty of empty seats last night... Seat was allocated to seat buddy after t-80 and before OLCI opened.

Yeah but that doesn't matter. If there really is a PCV, all bets are off once check in opens.

QF knows a bronze/silver can get a better seat than a P1. It's a problem that is apparently being addressed.

As soon as that travel newbie gets the up front middle seat, the flight is instantly ruined for the WP on either side.

Tell that to the check-in agent who forces it.

When Altea was first introduced there was a real ruckus with among the issues agents simply not having the power to easily override allocation.

It seems Qantas freed this up somewhat from the initial concept and agents have a little more say.

(Other changes included altering the weighting more for those on award bookings as Altea mostly had them at the back of the queue irrespective of status due to "$0 revenue" factors.)
