Why masks in airports?

I do take precautions. I am careful but it's difficult to avoid stupid people.

When queueing do we have to be squashed together? Give me space. Don't touch me.

In a supermarket I'm standing in front of the shelf looking for a specific product and someone stands next to me and reaches in front of me to grab something from the shelf. I mean seriously. Just plain stupid.

And no you cannot get on with your life as you see fit. That's like saying someone knows they have Covid but they just go about their business not wearing a mask as if nothing is wrong. That is about as irresponsible as it gets.

Very difficult to fix stupid and obviously Covid has taught them nothing.

I have this feeling the next one will be similar to Ebola. That should weed a few of the stupid out of the way but many innocent will also suffer.

I really sympathise. I think you’re fear of the virus is probably more psychological than fact based. If you’ve had your vaccinations, your risk of death is negligible. Certainly no higher than any number of things that would have not caused you to bat an eyelid three years ago.

Sadly, if you don’t want to risk “catching” the virus, then that’s on you. Not others. A mask isn’t going to prevent it. Someone standing 5cm too close to you isn’t going to cause it. You’re taking a far too simplistic approach. The only option would be to lock everyone in their homes ala 2020, and sorry but that’s not happening as the risk does not warrant such extreme measures.

Interesting question. At what point in a pandemic do the rights of people to live their lives as they see fit trump protecting others? Especially in high density non-voluntary settings?

During lockdowns people were demanding to be released because casual workers needed to make a living. Yet do we afford them the same consideration now when if comes to wearing masks so we don’t spread it to them?

When the population is fully vaccinated and the mortality rate is negligible. Ie; now. You still seem to believe that wearing a mask is going to eradicate this virus.

If wearing masks helps stop the spread, why would anyone *not* want to do that?

Because there’s little evidence to suggest it does. Why not wear wrist bands that say “GO AWAY COVID”? Especially given we are talking about wearing them in airports and nowhere else. You seem to have a very naive view on this. Masks in airports seem to be your one and only solution.

Maybe you are simply taking too long and people get frustrated. That too happens often. People act like they are the only ones shopping and stand and read every label. I give them a period of time but then sometimes just have to reach in. They too are being inconsiderate.

No that's not the case and if I am taking too long a very simple "excuse me sir...." with the "sir" optional.

We stand in long queue and the person behind pushes me. Turn around but say nothing. Not long after they push me again. FFS do you seriously think the queue will go faster if you keep pushing me?

The biggest problem with society is people leave their brains at home or they simply have no br....

And that will be fixed by placing a piece of plastic or cloth over one’s nose or mouth?

Absolutely.

If they do not have a mask or cloth on their face and they sneeze or cough while they are reaching out underneath my chin there's a good chance I'm in trouble.

If they have a mask or cloth on their face while they are reaching out underneath my chin there's an excellent chance I'm safe.

Society has developed lots of bad habits over the years. If you're religious pray the next one is not of the magnitude of Ebola. Some may just survive and start again.

Ok so now we’re onto Armageddon.

Sorry John. I’ve got a lot of respect for you, but a piece of plastic over your mouth isn’t going to stop you contracting a virus that has managed to infect half the population in six months (especially given the highest level of infections took place when said masks were mandated in all settings).

I say Excuse me as I move to collect the item so it’s kind of moot. And Sir isn’t something I’d use, ever.

You say excuse me but don't wait for response or confirmation? I use Sir or Ma'am but I did say that was optional.

Correct. By the time I get to Excuse Me it means I’ve given them a chunk of time, made my presence known (ie visual sighting etc) and it hasn’t worked. Works both ways.

Way off topic but that's reality.

We've been had. Covid was not an accident. Georgia guidestones, population reduction, gain for function, great reset all one and the same.

Only in Australia we get this bits and pieces approach. I mean I nearly fell over when I heard Victoria will take its own approach and it’s not on the agenda at the moment.

Masks should be non existent at all airports and onboard across this land.

I was always under the impression that airports were some kind of federal jurisdiction (hence AFP not state police being present). Can’t the federal government just set an airport policy nationwide?

What happens these days if I walk in Tullamarine without a mask? Do I get arrested?

I accidentally did it a few days ago. Genuine accident as they’re not worn anywhere else anymore and it didn’t even occur to me. Nobody said a word. Remembered when I was in the lounge
