According to reports, coronavirus vaccine is entering its final phase of testing and very soon we will have millions of coronavirus vaccine to be rolled out, hopefully from September.

By then, should a coronavirus vaccine is available, will you vaccinate it?

Personally speaking, as a 30 year old young person, I will not vaccinate myself with Coronavirus, because:

1. It is just a small flu for young people, we won't die;
2. The vaccine is rushed and I cannot guarantee if I vaccinate myself, I will be immune to Coronavirus and not get killed by the vaccine;
3. The coronavirus vaccine is just a step to reopen our borders so that we can travel overseas again.

I am not anti-vaxier, however I only think that Coronavirus vaccine is just a political ticket for politicians to explain to the public that they can now open the international borders again and ease off travel bubbles.

What do you think?

Probably not as the flu vaccines are against different strains of the flu virus.Usually 2 Influenza A and 2 influenza B strainas.Usually contains an H1N1 type which are the descendants of the Spanish flu.
Here are last years.

The plot thickens.. Denmark are euthanising their entire mink population because the bug crossed to the mink , mutated, and then reinfected humans in a different form.
Reports suggest this mutation has ramifications for vaccine development.

Thanks for the response.

I also heard on radio today that the positive effects of one vaccine could be eliminated/reduced by the actions of a different one as they are working on different aspects of the virus.

Another Phase 3 trial halted but this time maybe political as it is in Brazil who have elections this Sunday.However it is a Chinese vaccine that they admit they have already used before this Phase 3 trial has ended.

So it appears that vaccines is available from January 2021, and according to the latest survey, 6% will not get the vaccine whilst 36% is not certain whether you will get vaccine or not.

When vaccine arrives in January 2021, will you get vaccinated?

I'll be waiting my turn in the priority list I imagine.

I don't think I will be terribly close to the beginning, so I might have a bit of a wait....

If not enough people get immunised, the herd immunity effect won’t kick in and there will still be significant case numbers and transmission.

This will also mean Australia will still have domestic borders going up and down and severe international restrictions for longer as well. Probably for years.

I find it incredible that people like you, who are agitating so loudly for these international restrictions to be lifted refuse to have the immunisation themselves because of the “pain”.... thereby actually pushing back the very thing you want so much...

Yes, and hopefully vaccinated by mid year so I can travel oversea's anywhere mid Sept, thinking one of the safe SE ASian countries, of which on performance, there are many, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Hong Kong, Taiwan.

Understand Greg Hunt wanting to see huge dent in hotspots like USA, India, Europe, etc, and restrictions to travel there until much lower infections, however if I am vaccinated, don't need herd immunity in Australia or for 'safe' SE Asian countries to open.

Yes +1.
But the media is irresponsible with the facts, confusing efficacy, effective(and not not dropping weasely qualifications). Only ABC correctly used the word 'Successful' for the claimed 90%ers pumping up their stock prices. So Safe - tick, Successful - tick, Substainable - not tickable. If the vaccination wears off after 3-6 months, you will need another - AND that choice will be less, if the delivery vector is not reusable. Lets just cross our fingers and hope T cells have a longer memory.
This is why holidays with a vaccine medical certificate may be time limited, and why other vaccinations will need to be included, as you just cannot 'top up' with another shot from the approved list.

Some more on the Oxford vaccine.At least has been tested in an older population.

Few observations. A jab is not 100% . SA and Vic went postal with a little outbreak.
Efficiency, Efficacy and successful are not the same.
If 90% successful one 737 of say 160Pax, are we prepared to import say 15 people who could be carriers? Are they going to need 14 days in expensive quarantine, or now 5 days as the UK is introducing? Will a cruise ship be welcome?
What If I fly to China HK or Vietnam and have the Chinese or Russian Jab? Still up for 14 quarantine if I return? Airlines want to sell tickets, and an overseas jab should count for something. Full unbiased Reciprocally.
And there are still Karen's: If I had it and recovered , and show antibodies, why the heck do I need a shot? As there is always risk, does Australia want to forego the 'education' market, and possibly the airline industry, as some countries will want to poach the top end of the market.

I think the take out is that 15 people with the virus can be managed. Whether that's contact tracing or ICU beds. 160 passengers presents a much bigger problem.

I'd suspect an overseas jab will be ok - practically and politically. Governments refusing entry to all Chinese and Russian citizens? Unlikely. Airlines refusing to carry Chinese and Russian citizens? Also unlikely.

Not sure that would be the adopted approach.

15 effectively unvaccinated people per plane.....without quarantine. That might too much of an ask.

Russians and Chinese able to fly surely can afford the vaccine approved by the country they are visiting.

It will be interesting to see what unfolds as to the strategy - a combination of vaccine and low rates of covid new cases perhaps, waiting for WHO to declare pandemic over
