I saw this book in the 'store' at Mission Hills in BC and was intrigued - I'm planning a trip to Georgia and Azerbaijan later this year, including a couple of days wine tasting in the ancient wine growing regions of eastern Georgia (where at least some of it likely all began!), so it looks a decent primer ...

Yours for a mere $13.11 from BookDepository: Divine Vintage: Following the Wine Trail from Genesis to the Modern Age : Joel Butler, Randall Heskett : 9780230112438

I have many friends in the wine industry in Georgia so feel free to hit me up for some contacts if you end up going over. I had a great trip over there a year or so ago (+Armenia & Azerbaijan). Tibilisi is a fantastic city... make sure you go to a wine bar called Vino Underground and a restaurant called Arzepesha. Great English bookstore/cafe on the main ave also. Didn't make it to the coastal areas but spent a fair bit of time in the wine regions of Imereti, Racha and Kakheti. Signaghi is an amazing hilltop town in Kakheti that is well worth visiting... great hotel there (Hotel Kordoni from memory?) and a fantastic wine restaurant owned by my mate John Wurdeman who owns Pheasants Tears winery.

Bingo! Post of the Year as far as I'm concerned :p. At the moment I'm scheduled to visit Tsinandali Family Estate, Telianny Valley, Khareba and Schuchmann’s wineries, (in the Telavi / Kakheti/ Sighnagi area) but I'm negotiating for more. Having dinner at Pheasant's Tears  .

Its a private tour and I'm in the area for 3 days and in Tbilisi for two; a week all up in Georgia.

Only 2 days in Azerbaijan ... Baku and surrounds.

I will PM you for some contacts. Thanks!

Nice one.... who are you touring with?..... Living Roots is a fantastic company based in Georgia.... Ia is an absolute start. Another mate Max Johnson (operates out of Winnepeg) runs some cracking tours in Georgia also.

Wineries I'd try and visit: Alaverdi Monastery (an absolute must if you can get in!), Iago Bitarishvili, Ramaz Nicholedze (he owns Vino Underground in Tibilsi), Pheasants Tears, Soliko Tsaishvili, John Okro ..... I'm sure more will spring to mind!

You'll love it

There are actually a whole bunch of Georgian winemakers coming over here for an event in Sydney in late November.... if you haven't already gone it would be a good chance to meet them.
