Blend: 60% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier
Veuve Monsigny Champagne is available nationally through Aldi Supermarkets. Yes, that’s right people. Aldi!! In fact, it’s an Aldi exclusive.
It’s called ‘Veuve’ Monsigny and we know how fabulous those Veuves are in Champagne! But sadly, on closer inspection of the bottle I found out that it is not actually made by a Veuve (which is French for widow), but by a lovely man by the names of Charles Mignon. Mignon means ‘cute’ in French, so I guess it’s pretty appropriate…
It’s true origin was the only disappointment though because what I was greeted with when I eventually popped the cork was a light, fresh champagne that was gloriously effervescent.
There’s lovely honey and acacia notes on the nose with the overall effect being quite delicate. This was backed up in the mouth with quite fine bubbles feeling pleasantly round on the tongue. My tastebuds were doing a happy dance – the honey transferred to the palate with ripe nectarines making their presence felt.
Lovely, fresh, lemony hints at the end made sure that there was a fresh, clean finish.
Fabulous Ladies of Australia rejoice! We can now all afford to drink champagne at any party. At just under $25 per bottle, this would have to be THE best quality for value sparkling wine of any variety on the market.
[h=3]Drink With[/h]Drink it as an aperitif, or with a fish or chicken course. Or just sip it all night while you are looking fabulously elegant in your party shoes.
Price: $24.99. Yes, you read that right. Real Champagne for under $25 a bottle. Ah-may-zing.
Rating: And it’s GOOD. Really, really good 5/5. Ridiculous value for money.

All I can say is interesting. never tried, could do worse.

and who am I to say......
Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front (www.winefront.com.au) - 92 Points -
"It's bright, fresh and flavoursome. It's easy to see the attraction, and the quality. Damn good buying, you'd have to say. It tastes of spiced apples, honeysuckle, fuzzy sweet peach and almonds. It rings refreshingly through the finish, with no lack of length. Excellent style, and value."

I reckon Campbell may be taking a leaf out of AC's compendia.

Not being an die-hard aficionado of the fizz I was surprised to find myself wanting to nip down to Aldi and snap up a 1/2 dozen for Xmas this year BF! The sheer snob value of popping the cork on a bottle of Veuve or Moet dissipates like a fine mousse of bubbles down the sides of a Riedel when you see value like that, but like you I haven't tried it and nor am I likely to as Aldi doesn't operate in Tas...:-|

I've tried it, it's a decent wine but with CM AND DM recents offerings thes

I just searched for AFF handles (frequented in the wine threads) in cellar tracker so if you get a request from A_Steady it is me ;)

I run my cellar bottle temp at 14-15'. You think that is too cold?

It's a panasonic inverter split system set at 16' and keeps the room around 14.5'...

Ditto, have done for 20+ years, originally a Fujitsu split unit that lasted about 16 years, now a Mitsubishi Inverter. I've had solar panels since 2007, with a good feed-in rate.

I cellar only reds, some for up to 15 years, a few longer, mostly 8-10 years and that temp seems to work well for me.
In winter (Canberra) I put the unit on heating at times, otherwise it gets down to 10[SUP]o[/SUP], although this winter was quite mild and the a/c was off most of the time.

The bottles are now mostly under screwcap, so humidity (can get low with a domestic split unit a/c) and daily variation isn't a big issue.

You do have to plan ahead a little for drinking though, 14-15 is just a bit cool for drinking the sort of reds I do, so you have to get them out of the cellar a while before drinking.

We will be in the area for the Margaret River food and wine festival that weekend. This will suit our timing quite nicely.

Thanks Steady

Glad it is of use to someone - I would love to be able to go, one day the stars will align I guess

The AFFers who don't get out of the wine threads really are missing out on some good AMEX offers - there is so much more on AFF that will benefit anyone who wants to leverage a good deal.

Buying wine tonight from Boccaccio @ 50% off (in multiples of $60 depending on how many cards you have) is another example

I have 3 cards so limiting my spend to as close to $60+, $120+ or $180+ is the best value for me, and with free delivery tonight (click frenzy sale) the $120 and $180 are the sweet spots.

I could get 7 x 2014 Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz for $125.30 minus the $60 = 7 for $65.30 delivered, ($9.33 a bottle) - there are almost endless possibilities
