He’s a man that, for wine lovers, needs no introduction. Tonight from 6PM, James Halliday is LIVE in conversation with Ned Goodwin MW.

Pour a glass and enjoy as Australia’s first man of wine sits on a VIP panel featuring Langton’s Head of Auctions Tamara Grischy, Brokenwood Chief Winemaker Iain Riggs, and founder of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation Paul Francis OAM. This will surely be a significant and unmissable event.

Join the discussion as our special guests talk about the auction of James Hallidays breathtaking Domaine de la Romanée-Conti collection, his special relationship with the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, and a lifelong passion for everything vinous.

[Sydney] Aged and Rare Wines Dinner with Huon Hooke - Tuesday 28th July @ Pendolino

I have always held the opinion that James Halliday inflates his scores, but he has nothing on the cough from Sam Kim. Does anyone out there have a critic they actually trust?
  • The Wine Front (generally Gary Walsh and Mike Bennie more than Campbell Mattinson)
  • Jeremy Oliver
TWF is the only wine service for which I have a paid subscription
  • Huon Hooke & The Real Review, with past/present contributors such as Toni Paterson, Ralph Kyte-Powell
  • Tyson Stelzer
Unfortunately HH/TRR scores are not as freely accessible as previously

I've only ever had a free trial of Halliday Wine Companion, but even then, didn't make much use of it

A new wine front judge - focusing on sparkling's

(Announcement on tWf by Gary Walsh 20-07-2020)

While The Wine Front may be at the cutting edge of interactive wine commentary, always moving at great pace to cover the ever-growing web of global wine, some things come at a slower tempo. This year marks the ten year anniversary of the last human inclusion to The Wine Front with the signing on of our Mike Bennie. The bringing on of new/established talent has often been discussed at TWF, though clearly the gears have turned slowly. While the glacial pace may have been an obvious marker, we have been attending to the idea of bolstering the ranks of The Wine Front for some years. A new appointment to The Wine Front has been attended to with consideration.

It is with immense pleasure and dedicated review that The Wine Front welcomes a fourth member to enhance and broaden the scope of coverage. We welcome the amazing communicator, educator and writer that is Curly Haslam-Coates.

Curly has forged her career around the globe with over 25 years’ experience in consumer facing positions in the wine industry. Through academic success in the WSET program, Curly was awarded the Vintners Bursary trip to Tasmania, which was seismic for her future and current career. The tutored visit led to Curly moving to Tasmania, and she has since established Vintage Tasmania, a multidisciplinary business that incorporates wine and spirits education, agri-tourism, inclusivity in the wine industry and children’s food literacy skills.

Curly has judged wine shows around the world, is a foundation judge of the Drink Easy Awards, has been nominated for the International Wine and Spirit Competition for the International Communicator of the Year . She writes with acumen across all genres of wine. Curly has dedicated large portions of her study and tasting to understanding and teaching in and around the genre of sparkling wines of the world. It is a metier worth celebrating and investigating. With this focus in mind, Curly has been recruited with sparkling wines as a focus, though not an exclusive one. To date, The Wine Front covers a multitude of things well but in consideration, sparkling wine has been a lesser pursuit at times. Curly is addressing the deficit, and becomes the resident critic for this oeuvre.

It’s great news all up for The Wine Front and we look forward to the diversification of The Wine Front’s offering.
