Woolworths gift card thread

Does anyone know if there is a way to recycle physical gift cards, expired credit cards etc? I have an assorted pile about the same size and prefer not to add to landfill if at all possible.
Literally emailed giftcards@woolworths and my local council with the same question last night! Will let you know what they come back with.

I was thinking the same thing as I have a pile on my desk to throw away - also someone could get a bit of info from all the cards I have

I have a box of them for memories and mementos
If the recycle option came along, I'd be up for it

After the glory days when you could do unlimited cards on some FB offer - I had close to 1,000 zeroed out cards built up over 5 years.

I sure miss those FlightCentre offers....

The used cards come in VERY useful for removing stuck on items on car bodies, windscreens - without scratching the duco. After having wet/damped the offending item of course. Brilliant for removing any paint splashes or lines on window glass.

Also useful for 'spatula' requiring glue jobs, among other uses I've found.

However, if recycling comes up I do have two shoeboxes' full ready to take advantage...

Add me to the list. Here I was sitting back wondering why people hadn’t thought to just throw them in their recycling bin. 😂

"You call THAT a pile of gift cards...."

Can be dangerous - look what happened when the Amex offer for the Lindt shop happened! "Lindt Half price Offer & $10 credit"

Lindt spread.jpg

Many AFFers risked increasing clothes' sizes in the interests of claiming that challenge. Who knew so many AFFers are experts at tessellation?

Does make me wonder what a 'suitcase packing challenge' would elicit.

Woolworths gift cards replied with a nice email, effectively saying while they don't recycle them now, they'll float the idea to management.

Tks v.much for update @exceladdict but seriously, WGC response is NOT good enough (and I'm sure COL feedback would be the same). Both are happy to shout about "no more single use plastic bags" (🤔😉) plus other green initiatives but happily flog racks and racks of low value, non-rechargeable "gift" cards cards but, ummm, sorry no idea what to do with your single-use, non-rechargeable card. Unethical and Unacceptable. GCs don't HAVE to be plastic; online options should be available for purchase with option for physical card made of maybe bamboo. Not able to swipe perhaps but facility to enter card details.

Good point.

I wonder what the backlash (aka how many people have left a plastic giftcard in their pocket & it has been washed) would be if they moved to cardboard.

After all, typically, the plastic GC is attached to a cardboard 'hangar'.
