Woolworths gift card thread

Bought some of the green Visa gift cards this morning, went through without a hitch

No problems my wife buying 4 more Visa Only cards today.

The issues are likely store specific. But remember Visa Only have had considerable problems in the past where their website has been down for days and spending on cards has failed during that time.

I've bought 40 Visa 1 cards over the last 10 days in Brisbane stores (4 at a time of course!). No hint of any problems. But if this is going to get shut down I may stock up.

I bought 16 eftpos cards today and went through ok at self checkout. Attendant asked what method I was going to use and I said e-giftcard and she was fine with that. I am wondering if there is some type of credit card fraud going on at the moment? I guess if someone did manage to steal your credit card details using the RFID reader, they could only do transaction < $100 each time so the pin requirement doesn't pop up..? then do multiple $55.95 eftpos/only1 visa card buys..

Went to a few woollies with different results in the last 5 days. One is the same, went through self check out as usual. One after scanning, needs to be verified by staff. One failed to activate, i.e. no small activation dockets came out. Took me two days to convinced them that money wasn't loaded, and got refunded. Two had new version of software, and not able to use self checkouts. After scanning, the red light went on, the staff came and said cannot do gift cards here, have to go though normal checkouts. Paid by egift card with no problem.

Purchased 5k pf visa1 cards today.

Since i purchased more than usual for a family friend.
I asked the manager if it was ok.

She didn't seem to care. So I went about myself without the guilt or looking over my shoulder.

I hope it stays the same

So what was it. 5k of Visa1 or flight centre?

Both. I needed 5k to pay bills that don't accept payal . And my friend needed 5k for some flight to flight centre.

Learning the ropes of what is and isn't accepted at Woolworths

Becareful of buying the 07-19 expiry visa1 cards. They don't activate.

bought 10 today, no activation slip but they told me to come back after 24 hours and will refund if not activated. I am almost certain it didn't activate and the short barcode (not attached to the card) scans as well with no warning messages

Bought 7-19 expiry ones today without any problem but 1-19 expiry bought on Saturday did not activate. Major hassles today getting them refunded . Front desk person was making big hoo ha as according to her they cannot be bought with e gift cards

Did you get an activation slip? Mine didn't.

Funny thing is I spent 45 mins at one store sorting this out. Including buying it, realizing that both barcode scans, getting the manager involved. Then they decided to refund me but couldn't work out how to do it onto another gift card. So they refunded into my credit card. I guess I saved doing part payment for $1000 worth. Lol

I had to go back 3 times to get the refund. First time the staff swap new cards for me, but no activation docket printed neither. She asked me to wait 24 hours first before anything else could be done. When I went back the next day, a different staff refused to do anything, saying Woolworths has got nothing with these gift cards once they are sold, blah, blah, blah. After I kicked up a stink, she told me to come back next day morning to see the manager. Went back the third day to see the manager, as soon as I explained to him the situation, he gave me the refund.

I have been fine with both Jan and July expiry but have always received activation slips
BTW how was the refund processed? Suspect you have 'won' on the deal (though at a pretty low hourly rate)

He asked me did I want to swap or a Woolworths gift card with refunded value. I said I preferred visa gift cards only if there will be activation dockets printed. Magically it worked this time.

Straight into my Amex card. I'm not sure how the points would have calculated though? I know I would have got $50 for my efforts but I don't think I got the points as Amex would credit the points on the refund?

a little tip

if you do have this opportunity again, this is what I do, link your savings card to your credit card,
when you do a refund, you present your credit card and press savings,
it becomes a cash refund!!

Free points!

Nice tip, but presumably you need your credit card and your savings card to be from the same bank?
