Woolworths gift card thread

Murphy's Law: Just two days ago I mentioned in this thread that Rebel vouchers have no value for me because there's no Rebel store in Darwin and I don't need any sports gear at present.

Today I find out that the local Amart Sports is being rebranded to Rebel and Mrs H wants new training gear.:(

NEVER under-estimate the power of AFF!

Got about 30 or so rebel e-gift cards during the promo period. Gotta love buying things at over 90% off!
I noticed at one WW, the self serve machines were updated with a completely new format and require a staff member to "authorise" the gift card purchase. It was mentioned earlier in this thread but the first I've seen myself.

Woolworths are clearly rolling this out nationally one store at a time.

Bought some visaone cards yesterday along with regular weekly shop, have a ww cc so scanned that rewards card on the back of that and it was the monthy 10% off week. Ended up getting 10% of the entire shop including visa cards and still paid with egiftcard.

For those stocking up this would have been great

I suspect this was a system mistake which will be closed down soon.

The NSW Government has announced that they have done a deal with WOW for holders of a seniors' cards to buy eWish cards at a discount of.........5%. Maybe the NSW Premier has been lurking on this thread.

So seniors can now do what everyone else has been able to do for a year plus via cashrewards?

Wonder how many lost/unused gift cards this will create that benefit woolworths?

Perhaps this is why the NSW Govt is also planning to legislate a three-year expiry for all gift cards.

Some of the Australian post staff are so sensitive and precious

Today went to pay $100x5 off a bill

Here is snippets of what happened
"just wanting to pay $500 off this bill, I have $100x5 eftpos cards"

"what do you mean you want to pay $500 off with $100", aggressive
" I don't understand " aggressive
I've never done something like this
That's not a eftpos card that's a gift card
I don't think you can use gift cards
How do I enter $500 but only put $100 in(she asks me)
This looks very suspicious. I might need to call security
(had to show her the blue screen where she puts in $100)
I don't think this will work
Do you know youre going to get charge $1.85 x 5 in fees (fee was $1.85 x1)
I've never seen anyone do this
I'm not giving you any change

I saw ebay gift cards at Woolies today. Not sure how long they've been available but I might add that to the list of useful gift cards.

I had a similar experience last week - the Melb GPO branch of Auspost would not accept the EFTPOS gift cards to pay bills over the counter. The snarky manager when called over confirmed this, and said it was a direction from head office.

Fine to use at the self servive machines though. Very odd.

Zero fee to pay the ATO this way, but I'm doubting the investment of my time to collect the Perfect EFTPOS gift cards, redeem rebel vouchers and phyically pay some bills has been worth it.

I thought maybe I get the staff on a bad day but it seems to be all across the board

Also I visited 3 self serve terminal aust posts this week in Vic and all had no machines because they were in the process of moving

Many people I know disagree with this, however the use of language is and can be quite important.
I've done this at a few stores with no issue.
First mention you want to pay a bill with your savings account.
Then say you want to pay for five separate transactions of $100 each. To be clear say you want five separate tax invoices.
Don't flash the eftpos gift card around and only pull it out at the last minute, making sure you know which side to swipe and you know the PIN without fluffing around. Or you can have your bankcard out and switch at the last minute ;)
You select savings, not cheque or credit, so you are telling the truth.

I was knocked back at an Aus Post in similar fashion using Only 1cards and staff were quite rude, so to exact revenge I sticky taped some Only 1 cards to the back of my regular EFTPOS cards, went back and tried again. The lady (who remembered me) asked to see the cards I was using, and after showing the front she reluctantly started the transaction. I was quite proud of myself until the new double width card (which I had test swiped through a machine at a cafe) struggled to swipe through the Aus Post EFTPOS machine, and had the contactless chip read instead. Happened twice in a row, I apologised, left, and haven’t been back since! Oops

Seniors Card NSW

This will be great for internet savvy seniors who don't mind carrying around slips of paper and using the codes for payment and keeping track of where everything is and what the current balance is. If they are good with apps and have plenty of data they could use this method as well.

There will be some seniors who don't fit this description.

There will be some living from pension/other income payment to payment and won't have enough funds in hand to tie up value on a gift card.

If Woolworths were genuine about helping they'd set things up so that producing a Seniors card at the register would give the customer a 5% discount on the spot without making them tie up their savings on a gift card.

Just bought some gift cards, but store clerk mentioned that Woolworth is looking into forbidding eGfit card to buy giftcards in 2018.
Hmm.
