Woolworths gift card thread

I went to use the vanilla MC for my car service today (useful as they have an Amex surcharge)
For the life of me I can't remember the PIN procedure for these and it's not easily found online
Fortunately they were able to run it through with the numbers and cvv (as per a phone transaction) after pressing credit which was very accommodating.
Makes me think you may not need to put in a PIN if you press credit rather than savings
The procedure is usually printed on the card and for a MC should be credit. If you were trying savings that would be why it wasn't working

Per the cardholder agreement, whatever you enter the first time becomes the card's PIN for subsequent transactions. Alternatively, you can just press OK without entering a PIN at some merchants (e.g. Woolworths):
The use of a PIN with a physical Card is optional. However, should you choose to use a PIN with a Card, you can apply one when you first use the Card at a merchant’s POS device. Any four-digit code will work as the initial PIN for your first PIN-based transaction. After the first PIN-based transaction, you must use the same PIN for each subsequent PIN‑based transaction, unless and until you choose to reset the PIN.

I only usually use the MC/Visa online but I am already well in credit there. Was reverting to the usual Eftpos card procedure which explains things
 
Just did a run at Croydon, Kilsyth and Canterbury Gardens and no variables in stock.. just a heap of $100 & $50's

My local woolies continues to be perfectly consistent.

Yesterday, the check out dude processed two cards without any issue or intervention. He informs me that the cards are non-refundable and says he must warn me against scams. We had a chat about how these cards are great for safer online activity.

Today, a different check out dude calls over the duty manager before even scanning a card and cops a spray for doing that. Duty manager was the same that gave a dude all manner of grief a month or so ago when trying to buy 12 cards across 6 accounts. She proceeds to explain that I can only buy one card. No I tell her, it's two per day per account else I won't get the points after that. She says the system won't allow a purchase over $1000. No I tell her again, and show her the receipt from yesterday. Eventually - I've been there for more than 10minutes - she processes the deal but only after saying I should be providing business and personal details as this is a "business transaction".

It's the same every promo.
 
I did try to get a few more, both my local stores, no stock

One of the stores told me that a lady was caught last week tampering with the cards, they were opened and then resealed...

Supermarket busy bodies. I don't understand their motivations. Is it just a power trip? I can't imagine the higher-ups give a hoot.

I purchased 2x $500 Vanilla MC the other day and the cashier recognised me as a repeat customer and didn't make any noise about it.

I keep reading here that supermarkets in the major cities often run out of these cards and that people hide them. I've never had this issue in Newcastle. I don't think that many people play the points game here. They do run out near the end of the promo, though

Report this duty manager online. They either need more training or they need a serious attitude adjustment. Or both.
 
Apart from manager’s excuses, no dramas buying across multiple accounts by yourself?
I don't have multiple accounts but couldn't spend big bucks on these anyway. A few grand is my max, usually all on my one account. Dramas buying two cards on one account happens, or not, depending on the staff/store.

I was told a while ago that it was "easier" to use the service desk register to purchase these sorts of cards but a few weeks ago for the Luxury promo, the guy there said just use the self service checkout. It ended up taking ages because each card had to have some sort of approval/intervention and there was always a wait to get the attention of staff who was dealing with all the other checkouts too.
 
Report this duty manager online. They either need more training or they need a serious attitude adjustment. Or both.
On my to-do list!! Seems odd the more junior staff had no particular issues.

I do wish there was an auto feedback process like Flybuys.
