If it's any consolation - this turns woolies rewards into a discount program which - when we look at other loyalty programs around the world - is not appealing to affluent spenders and does nothing to foster brand loyalty in customer segments where price is not the primary driver.

agree. this is really a poor decision by Woolies

Indeed. Tesco (in the UK) and their Clubcard scheme is one that drives people to their store, if they trashed that, it would be game over for many.

I had secretly hoped that Woolies would re-vamp and go along the Tesco ClubCard model. Allowing the consumer to sweep points to QFF similar to the way they do with Avios.
 
Woolworths dollars are only earned on selected products. Orange ticketed ones and other "things we think you'll like". So not based on total spend.
 
Well this is terrible.
Id still prefer Qantas points options. I dont care what you thought everyone else wanted.

Why cant they do something like the petrol thing. I elect to either get 4c off or Qantas points instead.
I elect to get $10 off or still get Qantas points. Or i store up "woolworths dollars" and at a certain point i cashout into Qantas points.
 
So it starts This Wed (28.10). Does this mean double dip for two months?

Qantas would like us to belive that negotiations are still underway, but clearly this has been Woolies plan for some time.
 
Woolies will almost certainly lose a noticeable proportion of its loyal customers as a result of the abolition of the ability to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points.
Woolies could even loose its market dominance of being the market leader in Supermarket retailing in Australia, something that Woolies has held onto for over 25 years.

May not happen immediately, but certainly within the next 12 months I predict.

It's time to vote with our feet ( and wallets ) I say!
 
Thinking about this rationally and from an entirely self-centred point of view I earned 40-50K PA from EDR.
This means
1. I can now shop wherever I like and not worry about the points
2. I'll probably churn another credit card with bonus sign on next year to make up the deficit
The game goes on ;)
(And Woolies lose)

Im believe I am in a similar situation, although with new point earning opportunities made available recently, particularly with additional members to Qantas Mall, I think I can survive any defect caused by Woolies pulling the pin, but this will be painful for many of the low point earning members of QFF.

I'm not too sure about them losing a big proportion of loyal customers. I see the same folk every week looking blankly when asked at the checkout for their EDR card. The average punter doesn't care about QFF points. Woolies are totally right about this. The interesting thing will be whether or not the high spenders care about QFF points. If you frequent AFF then you would think the answer is yes. I wonder how well Woolies market research has tapped this end of the market?
 
i guess i can go back to breaking my shopping into $30 increments at the checkout again. Only stopped because i got Qantas points.
More fuel vouchers here we come.

Woolies has been going backwards for the past 6+ years ... they need to change their model. QFF partnership has failed to deliver the $$$ ... no wonder they want to change their offer!

Outside of this forum i'd say most would rather the cash discount than QFF points. I would rather cash than QFF points :D

People will of course still shop at Woolies, although Coles are not too far from winning the Crown of Market Leader in supermarket retailing in Australia.
I believe this decision may change the preference for a small percentage of customers, but enough for it to cost them dearly in terms of market share.
Lets remember Woolies like-for-like sales are barely positive at the moment.

Woolies enjoys better buying power through owning the crown as market leader, but if they lose their dominance as being number 1, the influence on buying power will diminish.
 
Interesting how the pundits seem to like direct savings rather than the points, but I guess some had enough trouble trying to make any good out of it.

I guess one "consolation" for Woolworths is that if they aren't offering "useless" points, they won't be attacked so much by Choice for engendering any kind of fake loyalty or handcuffs.

I wonder how many Woolworths Dollars one will be getting back from purchases.

Both major supermarket chains (which are actually large cooperatives) in Switzerland have a similar "cash back" scheme. The points system works out to a cash back of 1% under standard conditions, however there are ways to accumulate more points and thus a higher rebate, e.g. 20x points or fixed bonus of 500 points for new or promotional products, or 5x points on total of next spend, or credit card spend which accumulates points.
 
I'm working my way through the FAQs at the moment.

They still haven't explained exactly what their targeted offers will be and what sort of extra rewards they will give.

At the moment it appears these "woolworths dollars" are based on specific products which might not be in my basket. I'd rather get some sort of reward per dollar I spend at the store, regardless of what I buy. I understand the need to exclude certain items like gift cards and cigarette products. These exclusions were around before the revamp. Rewards for buying certain products are just a different way of putting a product on special. This system means that I have to wait now to get the special price as we need to get to $10 to get money off our shop.

The $10 discount is less flexible than the flybuys dollars system. Flybuys dollars can only be redeemed in $10 lots but can be used instore as a payment method for amounts smaller than $10. WW had a chance to implement a swipe strip on their new cards like the flybuys cards and have lost a good opportunity if they haven't done this.
