Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

Couldn't happen to notice that throughout the promotional material Woolies sent out, no reference that the new loyalty card can be used at Big W.
That's a wasted opportunity since both Kmart and Target have a loyalty program.... Or are bigger changes afoot for Big W ?

I'm hoping Big W introduce something of their own. They've barely been a EDR partner this year.

I was in Woolies briefly yesterday and just as I picked up my basket there was a woman with a stand offering some sort of 'Select' hot drinks - chai latte etc. She asked me if I wanted to try but I said I wasn't interested. She then asked me if I had any questions about the new loyalty scheme. I was in a hurry and a bit lost for words so I said that I'd read up on it on the net and "made my excuses and left". Sorry folks I missed an opportunity there.

Woolies seem to be engaging in making loyalty schemes so complicated that people give up trying to maximise their benefits. It also sounds like the cost of collecting Woolies dollars is built into the prices of the items eligible. I'll only use Woolies when I have to and then pay with my Coles Credit Card - gives me 2 flybuy points per dollar, equating to $10 off per $1000 of spend.

Have you considered an Amex Platinum Edge? 3 MR points per $ at supermarket. With that its easy to get more value than Coles MC . There is a fee but covered by free flight. And you will get plenty of cash statement credit offers

Well this is terrible.
Id still prefer Qantas points options. I dont care what you thought everyone else wanted.

Why cant they do something like the petrol thing. I elect to either get 4c off or Qantas points instead.
I elect to get $10 off or still get Qantas points. Or i store up "woolworths dollars" and at a certain point i cashout into Qantas points.

This would be the smart move as it keeps both types of WOW customers happy but then do not expect it to happen.

Certainly cuts me out. No bonus points, or points earning - no Woolies. I chose where I spend my dollars thank you. For me the QFF partnership really worked and that is how they got my business. The discounts here and there and for orange marked items....really - not appealing thank you. Supa IGA and Coles are closer to me anyway.

At the end of the day Woolies must have thought the cost of the QFF points was greater than the loyalty and income that it brought in.

Whilst we probably only made a few thousand points a year, it is important to note that our loyalty was given to Woolies, in our pursuit for more and more points. Now, it frees us to look for monetary bargains, or convenience, instead of points, and that means Woolies will miss out on some income from our household. No doubt this has all been factored in when they made the decision, so we will not miss Wollies and Woolies will not miss us.

Yes I have an AMEX Gold card and continually get offers offering Platinum. Nearly all my flying is through my work so the "free" flight isn't worth the annual charge. I only use my AMEX card for those bills I hate paying as their merchant fee deters most traders from accepting it.

My husband and I have already ditched Woolies. Shopping at Coles exclusively now and waiting for the advent of Aldi here in WA. A small insignificant up yours to woollies but they will know because those orange cards are no longer in the wallet never to be scanned again.

I did get a very lengthy questioaire late-ish last year. All sorts of permutations for " improved" reward program,it took 1/2 hr to complete. It was clear they were looking at alternatives to QFFF points.
My very clear message was that points was the only reason they were getting the proportion of grocery spend from me they were.My family's 15k spend on Groceries and purchases through BWS will stop after 31Dec.Coles have spent big upgrading their store near me and Woolies is a slum ,poorly laid out, cluttered and reduced choice in the past year so this makes the move easy for me.

I also got the survey and thought haha - they are up to something in the future, and gave a response similar to yours. On the other hand our local Woolies store I preferred to Coles until Woolies started messing with an "upgrade" - revolving bag stands meaning its easy to leave a bag behind and operators complain to me they get back injuries twisting to load the bags; prepackaged deli goods never in the right quantity I am looking for or empty; the list goes on. The same changes Coles made two year earlier and had me even more fed up with them at the time. Locally, Coles has tended to be the dearer on many products too. Dissatisfaction with the reduction in variety and lack of stocking things I regularly buy by both biggies has seen me spend more $ in our local, actually quite good value, IGA in the last two years and give up on strategically using grocery spends to earn QFF or FB points - though the recent Velocity Etihad deal has my ears pricked up.

NB Frequent stalker for a few years now of AFF but slack poster

If only Bunnings had a loyalty system or better still, an airline point scheme - I am scared to tot up how many $ we have spent over the past 10 years and continue to spend with husband's hardware and DIY fetish (we have owner built three homes in our lifetime so far) then there's the gardening section......

Woolworths 1st quarter sales of food and liquor were down 1% (on a comparable basis). I can hardly wait to see what the new Rewards scheme does for 2nd quarter sales!

I got a letter the other day making sure, i'm aware that my WOW credit card will still earn 1 QFF point per dollar. Well I'm going to go back to using my AMEX at woolworths instead :-) I'll cancel the WOW CC and find an alternative. To be honest the main reason i got it was when I could pay at the pump for fuel.

Anyway I'll keep shopping where ever it works for me, but I'll be earning QFF point only via card and probably use my Flybuys card a bit more often as well. I was getting a bit sick of Woollies replacing products i like with their own brand also, which were never the same. There used to be a nice spicy bacon, chorizo and tomato soup. They replaced that brand of soup with their own and none of them taste as good as the other brand.

Can't wait to tell the Woolies CC "Why should I continue to reward Woolies with my loyalty, when they clearly don't care about it in the first place!".

The winners will be Aldi and Costco.

Only if you happen to have those stores near you. Woolies is ou closest supermarket (walking distance). Coles is a 10 minute drive, Aldi is a 20 minute drive and Costco 30 minutes.

Well, I ques Woolis figured it wasn't worth the cost.......QF being too greedy. Weren't they bragging FF was the most profitable part of their business?

Maybe QF might learn you can't bleed customers for ever, they eventually rebel. The Woolworths program may mean cheaper shopping and more money over for airfares, but not necessarily with QF, sopend where its cheaper. (The reports of the program are not encouraging, complex, directed and controlling.......Woolies are like QF, arogant about market power and trying to direct and control the customer. )

We need some to pick up a deal with Virgin that includes not just points but STATUS CREDITS, that would blow the market up.............Etihad is a start but a very narrow appeal program.

Etihad isn't that narrow appeal for me, I am Etihad gold, use it for VA lounge access, it's much easier to retain with all the double/triple/quadruple mile promos (including tier miles sometimes). I earn way more miles on car rentals with EY than I do crediting to VA. you get double points on VA as an EY gold and lounge access with lots of interesting partners. It's a great program. The business class reward flights east coast to abu dhabi actually reduced in price with the last Etihad Guest devaluation.
