Now do I want to win $10 pesky pesos from WW or do I want to enter the flybuys competition instead?Hmmm.

I thought AFFers don't fly Y?

Interesting article rainbowgirl. I found the following quote interesting:

"The solution? Give customers money off their shopping, quickly and automatically. The customer simply scans at the checkout and the rewards take care of themselves. No admin required. That’s why we’ve introduced Woolworths Dollars. Customers earn Woolworths Dollars in the course of their regular shop, and once their balance reaches $10, we take that amount off their next shop."

Many AFF members who have commented on this thread would not agree with the "quickly and automatically" comment. I just shop at Coles and don't chase lower prices around the different supermarkets - it's a waste of time and petrol. And I get rewarded from time to time with money off my shop. I don't need coffee makers and if I want a flight I'll pay for it or use QFF points to do it.

I must confess to not being aware of or a chaser of discounts when shopping. I don't even chase fuel discounts.

If you log in to Woolworths Rewards there is an area under My Account - cards and accounts - which will allow you to cancel your account. There is a drop down menu to give a reason, these include dissatisfaction and joining another rewards program.

It would be interesting to know how many EDR members have linked to QF accounts at all. I would suspect most of the population who shop at WOW do so, and scan their EDR cards for the fuel discounts, and nothing else.

While this is true, AFFers also tend to be a lot more savvy when it comes to these kind of programs and know when they are being ripped off.

Perhaps the general public just takes what Woolies is saying at face value and don't realise/care how terrible the new program is. That doesn't necessarily mean they like it. (And if the comments on the Woolies facebook page are anything to go by, the general public think's it's rubbish too anyway.)

With both Coles and Woolworths schemes being a bad joke moving forward all I think we need to do is work out how to get their 5% off gift cards and work on generating frequent flyer points elsewhere.

Interesting stats about number of EDR card holder linking or redeeming to QFFF.

I thought I read in the QF marketing material that around 3 million award seats are redeemed each year? Out of 10 million members, that means less than a third of QFFFs membership actually redeem flights anyway.

On that basis, I'd say QF could argue it could scrap the award seat element of their program!

Isn't people not using points the whole point of the program? Make people feel rewarded but never incur it's cost?

I wonder if the lack of a functional unsubscribe link puts WW in contravention of the Spam act?

While I don't like the new system... prices seem hiked up before you get a 'woollies currency unit' as rebate... the standard specials and pricing remain, overall, more competitive than Coles in our area.

I saved $7 yesterday at Woollies over Coles. Multiply that by a couple of times a week (on a $30 shop) and I'm able to buy a ticket to SYD on QF much quicker than I'll ever get from FlyBuys.

That was a brilliant reply to the article Mattg. Have you considered putting it in as a comment on the article website? Perhaps the author will reply to it.

I did actually reply to the original article on the Business Insider website but it is still awaiting "moderation". Go figure.
