Four's my thing. I got to 100 of them today.
LOL. I have 96 fours, and 79 threes - my threes are slowly gaining on my fours, but expect to make the century soon.

And as we are now at puzzle number 700, its time for some statistical trivia. Use this "knowledge" as you choose, or totally ignore it ...

Analysing the 700 Wordle answer words to date, the 5 most common first letters are:
S - 94 times (13.4% of words)
C - 60 times (8.6% or words)
A - 52 times (7.4% of words)
B - 50 times (7.4% of words)
T - 46 times (6.6% of words)

And in the last month (30 days), C was the most common starting letter (4 times), followed by A, B, G, P and S all appearing 3 times in the first letter position.

And in the last month (30 days), E was the most common last letter (6 times), followed by A, K, and R all appearing 3 times in the last letter position.

C - 60 times (8.6% or words)
A - 52 times (7.4% of words)
B - 50 times (7.4% of words)
T - 46 times (6.6% of words)

Past performance is not an indicator of future results… Moreso when this dataset is only just over a quarter of the total word set. However, some interesting points I find in that info:
- S is one of the three most common consonants in English so not surprising it features highly. That T does not also feature commonly is interesting for the same reason.
- C is the fourth most common, so also expected.
- B is a lot less common and very surprising to see on that list.
- Significantly fewer English words start with a vowel, so A is also surprising on that list. Maybe when the list of words was initially being generated the first few pages of the dictionary were over represented?

Personally I use Scrabble letter frequency/score as the basis for how I guess in Wordle, adjusted by how often consonants appear in all English words. So, I’ll always choose R, S, or T first, then N or L, then in order CDMWHY. I also use all five vowels in my two starter words to remove ambiguity later on. Since 3Feb22 (my first game of Wordle) I’m still at 100% win rate. 🀞
