Wordle!

Past performance is not an indicator of future results
Absolutely!!
- S is one of the three most common consonants in English so not surprising it features highly. That T does not also feature commonly is interesting for the same reason.
Perhaps T does not rate high as the first or late letter, but is commonly included as second letter (such at ST) and 4th letter (ending in ITE, ATE, OTE, UTE etc.). I was onlyu looking at the stats for first and last letters.
- C is the fourth most common, so also expected.
- B is a lot less common and very surprising to see on that list.
Perhaps again this is position dependent, with B being more common as a first letter than elsewhere in the word??
- Significantly fewer English words start with a vowel, so A is also surprising on that list. Maybe when the list of words was initially being generated the first few pages of the dictionary were over represented?
Yes, I was surprised to see that too.
Personally I use Scrabble letter frequency/score as the basis for how I guess in Wordle, adjusted by how often consonants appear in all English words. So, I’ll always choose R, S, or T first, then N or L, then in order CDMWHY. I also use all five vowels in my two starter words to remove ambiguity later on. Since 3Feb22 (my first game of Wordle) I’m still at 100% win rate. 🤞
Seems logical. I do take a quick look at what others have experienced to narrow down my starter word a little, but similarly look to determine/eliminate vowels and common and consonants. The variation of different people's starter words is interesting, but all seem to make sense and seem to work reasonably well.
