World's best airport named

Why not? There are several cities around the world which have airports much larger than the local population could ever support simply because it's geographic location makes it a good central transit point. In those cases a large majority of pax do not ever leave the airport, but simply transfer to other flights.

Given the prices they charge airlines per pax, it's probably not worth the effort. The fact is, nobody wants to pay for the facilities. Besides, if any sort of development plans ever get through the political mine fields, you would still have the greenies going up in arms. And it would also help if the Red Roosters in DRW doesn't run out of chicken as per the last time I was there...

Must say I love HKG airport, been there many times, was there two weeks ago, its modern, still in great shape after about 14 years, lots places to eat, excellent last minute shopping and usually only 15 / 20 minutes thru immigration. CX Pier lounge nice place to relax on too.

4 for me, KUL, SIN, HKG, YVR, and enjoyed all 4.

Wondering how SFO fared? Would rate it similar to YVR.

Agree ADL is the highlight for Australia, maybe make that a hub for Int-Dom connections lol.

Agreed entirely..:p

Rubbish, of course you can compare. Look at ADL (as others have pointed out). Far from a hub but works really well.

I am not sure how ADL comes into the picture...I am talking large hubs which SYD can never be. Its built to be a destination airport and there is no point in having facilities like they have in airports like SIN/HKG/DXB which are mainly built for transit passengers. A case to point is BOM.. which like most pax know is a disaster but again it is a destination airport. I was commenting on the fact that most of the airports on the top 10 list are not destination airports. In mosrt cases it makes no sense to compare the two and expect a destination to be a better airport unless its home.

Perhaps I just go to the wrong places when I'm there (which to be fair, has not been often) but my experiences at HKG have been underwhelming, CX lounges included. SIN much preferable for me.

I think any airport where there is a charge for standard non-airline-related inter-terminal transfers (e.g. SYD, PER(?)) automatically has a big black mark against it.

You haven't lived until you've had the pleasure of landing in BOM int airport at 02:30, waiting for the transfer bus in the mosquito infested transfer area for an hour before experiencing a 20 minute tour of the fartherest boundaries of the airport, only to arrive at the dom terminal where checkin doesn't open for another 45 mins....... :-)

And isnt' it fun hauling suitcases up the 8 steps onto the bus? only to find out there's no room IN the bus for them anywhere?

SYD, PER, and BNE.
MEL is pretty much next door.
ADL is somewhat integrated.
DRW is also somewhat integrated, but it's so tiny it wouldn't matter.

SYD, PER, and BNE.

Inter-terminal transfers at PER are free. May possibly be the only redeeming feature of the airport!

Still 50 minutes between buses though....

The problem with Australian aiports is that none of them seem to aspire to be great airports. They just seem to aspire to be adequate airports (and arguably not even achieving that goal in some cases)

CX have spent a stack of dosh on HKG lounges in recent times, The Pier lounge I was in was as new as tomorrow, excellent food, comfy chairs and good tarmac view.

2 out of 10 for me but I hate carpet in SIN airport.
