Would you guest a total stranger into the Qantas Lounge?

Until next time when they show up expecting to get in and can't. That will just annoy people.

or a group gets in but the one back in the queue doesn't.......ripe for certain failure & member angst.

I like the VA system. There's a defined fee and if you want another guest you pay it. This is a little more flexible than QFs policy.

As far as I could understand there was no airport hotel, there was no one helpful that was for sure. My airline office staff all just told me to wait and see wait and see... hours later - yes it has been cancelled the next is in x hours... yes it has been cancelled... we are now closed for the night there wont be a flight until tomorrow...

when I went to leave to go back to the hotel I had come from is when I first ran into the military police man, and then I had no hope of leaving without him 'escorting' me. So I couldn't get in a taxi, no way I would walk (it is not a well lit and there didn't really seem to be anything in walking distance, it was my first - probably only trip, so I am not aware of what actually is around), so I had to stay where I could be seen, which meant inside - just before security screening. By the time they closed for the night others had arrived early for their flight that morning.. so the area was never empty - my best option at the time.

So no airport hotel in Cairo? ( I have not been there so excuse my ignorance)

On the receiving end. A total stranger guested me into the New York (EWR) United Lounge a couple of days ago.

I was flying SQ in J and the lounge they use at EWR (SAS) has no showers. And as I was departing at 11pm for an 18 hour non-stop flight, a shower was a must. But only the United Lounges have showers at EWR. So I tried to use the Star Alliance rules that say if you are in J you have access to all *A J lounges at that airport.

The UA lounge dragons said NO. So I politely argued my case, complete with latest Star Alliance rules: Lounge Access Policy - Star Alliance

International Business Class Customers:
Customers have access to any Star Alliance member carriers' owned Business Class lounges.

  • Customer must present a boarding pass for travel in International Business Class on a Star Alliance flight
  • Customer must be departing from the local airport in International Business Class
  • Customers must be a revenue customer
  • Customer is not entitled to any guests

A guy coming in at the same time agreed with me and not the dragons. He then guested me in! I had my shower and left. I spoke with the dragons on the way out - they were actually very nice. They said that in their rules the word "any" is missing.

It's things like that have the propensity to screw travelling plans up! Imagine if you didn't meet the guy to guest you in especially if you had planned a full day in NYC expecting a shower prior to the flight?

I think you quoted the wrong post. I did not refer to Cairo nor have I even been there. Unless I am missing something.

Oops. Finger trouble. Sorry about that. Not sure how I made that error.
