Would you guest a total stranger into the Qantas Lounge?

The OP does many generous things, but guesting complete strangers who have neither been invited or asked by you into Lounges isn't one of them.

Nor even to have the courage even ask to be guested in.

That is neither sad nor petty

Certainly not sad or petty to call out someone sulking around at the back as if part of the group. If anything the hanger on is the sad and petty one.

I find that a horribly sad and petty attitude. I feel sorry for you. So you basically are happy to perform the role of an informant? How demeaning. Do something nice for someone once in a while - you may just find it redeeming.
Sorry but you dont know me at all.If you happen to read some of my other posts you may know that I do often perform random acts of kindness and have guested strangers into the lounge.I just dont think it is appropriate allowing people who are making a nuisance of themselves, which is what this particular fellow was doing, should be in any way rewarded.

I simply don't care for the description of other human beings as 'lice'. Drron I don't know you, but take heart in the knowledge that at least I don't think you a 'lice' or another demeaning, less-than-human term. You may think as you wish, I suppose.

Actually i think it is an apt description of someone who wants to basically leach of you. OTOH if they approached and asked to be guested then that is different.

I've seen the same term (lice) used to describe people who mill around at the departure gate; a nuisance perhaps but hardly leaching.

You call someone sad, petty & demeaning - whats the difference?

Go and read some of the threads on Flyer Talk.It is in common usage in the USA-I was using the local lingo. Many words, and that is all they are, have different meanings in different societies. For example Americans were absolutely horrified when replying to the question what do you do on weekends with-we often just muck around in the backyard.I always remember the old rhyme-Sticks and stones......

I think the rule should be as follows: Rule one . if you spot or look for a person that may benefit from a lounge experience , then a guest spot is a random act of kindness hat goes into your " pay it forward bank"
Rule two. If you are approached by a person with say too many guests and he/ she is looking for a " wing man " to negotiate past the lounge dragon. Then similar to rule one.
Rule three. If you get hit on by " door lice " you make he call. Particularly if said door lice is an FF and wont pay his / her way in the same fashion you do. IMHO it is fair to point is out to said lice .
I would guest a friend, have assisted with an overload and took pity on some stranded oldies. So my bank has a small but warming balance.

HAppy to meet , be guested by or guest you into the AFF QP corner!

perhaps there could be an understanding of "designated area" outside of major lounges where those lacking access can congregate! Bit like a cab rank. Those with patience (and thick soles) can hang around...Bit light hearted so don't go on verbal assault, please.

Actually not a bad idea.If I did see anyone outside a lounge with an AFF bag tag showing he or she would definitely get an invite.

I like that idea a lot! I am very fortunate to have access to the lounges (and live the life I do) and would like to share that with others. I never get much chance and it isn't a cost to me.

However presumption of access would be frowned upon.

For the record I have never met drron nor noticed his generosity to others and really don't care how nice a person he is - however I think he was perfectly justified in the action he took and shouldn't need to justify his reasonable action by other nice things he does.

Is there an AFF bag tag? I don't have one (or two) if issued. Am Gold member, I think.

Do a search on the forum for the thread, there were some for sale. I think they may all be gone now .. try asking munitalP.
Here's one i found on Macquarie Island-

Agreed. ¨Lice¨ that furtively gain access to a lounge without qualifying nor with invite are in my opinion no different to shoplifters nor other thieves. For someone to scorn another who denounces such an implicitly dishonest person is, IMHO, disgraceful.

This sounds like a good idea.

My thoughts since starting this thread have not changed. Everytime I am flying I am looking for opportunities to make someone's wait for a flight more comfortable but it is getting harder and harder. I am not going to solicit a total stranger walking as that would be rude and they may have access anyway.
