Would you guest a total stranger into the Qantas Lounge?

This is the way it works in the AA Flagship Lounge in LAX T4. One of my favourite US lounges, by the way.

Muchos Corona consumed......From memory.... LOL

It's the AA lounge in TBIT. They give you the swipe card when you enter downstairs, then once you get upstairs it's just past the reception desk on the left.

never been in the AA lounge at TBIT only QF/BA First and Business lounges......

I have mine attached to my backpack, but hidden inside the zipper. I keep them there incase I mysteriously need to check something in, then I just choose the colour of tag (red, silver, gold, platinum) I want to use for the next flight and attach it to the check-bag. It’s convenient. I don’t show them off, except in photos on here :p

My gold tags are still in the pack in my drawer, untouched...

Those people who ask to be let in at the lounge entrance are so irritating.
This would not bother me at all and I would certainly help out even if they asked.

By the way I was one of these people sometime last year when I did not have VA lounge access and I was simply ignored by people entering the QF lounge. I felt exremely embarassed and will not be begging someone to guest me into a lounge again....

I used to work out of perth and a collegue of mine told me how he would stand at the bottom stairs of the QF lounge and wait for someone he knew to come past and guest him in. I was quite shocked. I guess my level before shame kicks in is slightly higher than his....
I tried to explain the benifits of buying membership but no luck.

I have guested people I bumped into at the airport but this was usually a random event at the carpark, taxi stand, departure hall. Never at the door loiterring.

Cheers.

I am fortunate in that I have lifetime QP. But I did have to pay for it, and at a time when it was a struggle to do so.
While I am happy to help out ( like some of the stories on this thread) it occurs to me that those Frequent Fliers that choose not to invest do so for a particular reason. To expect they will be given a free ride by those that fork out for the privilege is a bit rich.
And frankly does nothing for the rest of us . Extra "Guests" mean an extra burden on the system ( which you all pay for) .

I agree - bring back the guest pass system - then it has real value to the FF and you can choose how you want to use your "guest allowance".

Sitting in Brisbane. Delayed QF52 to Singapore. Mrs GPH just brought an older couple who might otherwise sit in the dep lounge for 5 hours.
A random act of kindness which seems appreciated.

Nice to do a good deed.

That's a good thing to do. I think the QF51 was delayed by 7 hours in the end. Looks like a lot of people would've missed their European connections as well. At least you weren't in SIN waiting for the QF52. It was also delayed by about 7 hours, obviously, which resulted in a departure just before 4am.

Odd occurrence with QF52 yesterday, with the aircraft being swapped for maintenance with the replacement aircraft going tech, resulting in another sub being needed!

Some did miss European connections. But I believe QF 1 was delayed to compensate.

At JFK the Flagship lounge is to the tarmac side of the AC.It is the one place I have noticed door lice.Always someone lurking waiting to slip in when another uses the card to get in.Once I did say to the Aangel inside-he is not with us.

I find that a horribly sad and petty attitude. I feel sorry for you. So you basically are happy to perform the role of an informant? How demeaning. Do something nice for someone once in a while - you may just find it redeeming.

Why should he allow someone to just sneak in on the back of him? Sorry but if someone tried to float in after me like that I'd say they aren't with me either.

Big difference between being invited & inviting yourself.

FWIW, I don't see someone skulking around a door as a person worth inviting....YMMV:-|

The OP does many generous things, but guesting complete strangers who have neither been invited or asked by you into Lounges isn't one of them. That is neither sad nor petty

having been on both sides
1/as a guy with more dependents than lounges passes on a family rtw trip http://www.australianfrequentflyer....musings-family-traveller-lone4-one-21488.html and
2/ as a guy who has guested total strangers

i offer the following observations

1/ the decision to guest is dependent on the person who has earnt the right to decide who to guest i.e. me!
2/ I get to decide who to guest as i did the flying

Will i guest strangers?

Yes if that stranger is vaguely known to me through this forum (although after Boss reggies issues they have to have some history as a poster )
Yes if it obvious that the door dragons are giving someone with reasonable request issues (i.e. a family with one more child than passes) see my original thread
Yes if its an obvious goodwill issue (delayed flight x2 to AKL , offloaded ,taken couple in row behind in J me to F lounge, lovely convo for 2 hours )
no if its obvious that someone is having around wanting something for nothing (love door lice as a description)

In short
i did the hard yards
its my decision as to how i dispense largesse

The world does not owe you anything princess!

(i obviouslyy spend too much time at work directing the portion of teh population who believe they are entitled!)

Your post makes it very obvious you have never met drron.

It could NEVER be a "petty attitude" nor "demeaning", to stop someone's blatant attempt to enter an airline lounge (or any other premises for that matter) to which they were not invited, or had permission to access.

Are we to assume stredinnick, that you leave your front door open, or perhaps your place of business unlocked, just in case some random person may desire to enter and avail themselves of your generous hospitality??

Lounge access is earned or paid for, NOT barged into.
