Would you guest a total stranger into the Qantas Lounge?

How would you feel if a well dressed, respectable 17 year old frequent flyer approached you and asked for a guest into the lounge? I'm saying this as I can't yet access the lounge being under 18. I would happily offer up one of my complimentary access passes in exchange for this 'favour'.

I probably would... i usually scan around to see if there are potential people to guest, but alas i haven't achieved it so far!

Have been happy to do this in the past for guests that have started talking to me around security at USA airports, however, they turned out to be same level or lower level lounge members. Nevertheless, I have remained good friends with two lads who were at least twice my age, and now I can say that I have friends from DFW (met in SFO) and NYC (met in LAX). I don't usually feel the same level of 'niceness' at Australian ports for some reason, and I wouldn't guest anyone wearing 'thongs' or shouting "Oi, where are youse goin'" across the terminal hall.

I would be open to asking someone walking past the F lounge in SYD and towards the J lounge, whether they were on the same flight as me, as the odds are not usually too bad.

In saying that I was a 19 year old WP back then, and am a 20 year old WP now, so I still don't know how others would take the offer if I presented it to them.

My problem is I have only just made silver in addition to my life time Qantas Club. Heading for gold. When travelling with +1 my options have been limited . I have only once been guested ( Ansett bne biz lounge) nearly 20 years ago, I thought it was really special. I feel that if you shell out for a membership then others can do the same. But some of the stories here are heart warming and I am pleased to be part of a group that offers others a small kindness.

The more I see of men........... the more I love my dog

Have been on the road for about the last 3 weeks solid.
Was on an international flight in whY Jet* (as I refuse to pay for *class) today.
Got to speaking to the pax next to me. Turns out she just found out her Air Australia flight had been cancelled / grounded from overseas to BNE. So she had to shell out a heap of cash for her flight + two additional connections etc – but found herself now seated next to me. During the flight an interesting story unfolded as to why she was overseas.

She took it all in her stride but I could see that financially this hurt her at a bad time as she didn't select meals or the comfort pack. Plus other things that came up during the conversation gave indications and explainations.

So I purchased 2 bottles of water and some nibbles and handed them over as we chatted.

Anyway, as we landed I offered to drop her off at Syd T2 from T1 for her connecting J* flight to BNE (and then incidentilly she was connecting to BDB via QF) as I had a car waiting for me - which she graciously accepted.

Then as we hit T2 I offered to assist her with check-in ... again she was surprised but happily accepted.

Then as we got through security (where she commented "that is the fastest I have ever checked in and gone through security in my life”, I wisked her to the QantasPub near gate 49 where I triggered Arrivals Access (which worked perfectly). I asked her if she'd ever been in a lounge to which the answer was "no never". After pointing to the food and coffee etc and saying "it's all free, help yourself" her face lit up bright red. It was priceless. I then gave her a handshake and the euro kiss on each cheek and said "now you will have a good storey to tell your freinds" and then I left.

Net cost to myself was $15 worth of food & drinks, 10 mins extra time at T2 & additional $15 limo service.
Value to me was priceless helping a stranded passanger due to no fault of her own.

nonpop its that sudden look on the face ,that cant be controlled, that does it !! pure gold --yesterday I had occasion to see a lady (Asian) who was at the local bus depot looking very disconcerted so I asked her if I could help ,it turned out she didnt speak a lot of English but proffered a slip of paper she had . It was an address of a boarding school and her daughter was attending it so after a few hand signals I drove her to the school and enquired for her daughter who on arriving was awash with tears as she had no idea her mother was coming to see her !! hey it was all good and I nearly was in tears myself ! thank you's all round and I was on my way --time taken 30 mins ! time remembered -forever !!

Me too, drron.....that's my resolution too. It's the only one of my resolutions I seem to keep! Lose weight? Fail. Work/life balance? Fail. Cut down travel and airline provided booze? Fail.

thank god it is easy to be kind:lol:

Slightly off topic.
on 1 April taking the family to Disneyland. Family is Mrs and 2 kids. 10 and 6 yrs.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience in taking the whole family to the First lounge in SYD?
i have taken family to J lounge with no dramas. Not sure if F is strict!

wouldn't mind finding out how you go as have to take my disabled uncle and his carer on a flight and unsure whether they will allow lounge access to the carer.

Don't think you will have any problems.
The F Lounge is usually very welcoming and accommodating to families.

Sure will do. BTW what is your FF status? Maybe that might have a play.
I have taken the family to the J lounge when I was SG. That being said my kids were 5 and 1 at that time.

Hasn't ever been a problem for us.......2 parents & 2 kids under 10.

We use the Flounge as a family at least twice a year & have never been denied access.

Thanks mate.

Just curious to know the " score" of maximum people members would have taken to the lounge!

For me is the family.

I would definitely guest someone into the lounge. I've been guested into the CL in Perth purely because I shared a taxi with this nice lady (I booked a taxi. She couldn't get one, after trying to get one last minute - so I offered to split fare.). We got talking and she invited me to continue the conversation with her. It was totally unexpected. Didn't even know she was CL until we got to the lounge entrance. Anyway. So I feel as though when one receives, one should give back.

The only reasons I wouldn't do it would be if they didn't meet the dress code, or if they were loitering around the entrance and asked me to let them in. Those people who ask to be let in at the lounge entrance are so irritating.

Have once in SIN Flounge... to an AFF member I met on the flight coming in due to the AFF tags I had on my hand luggage.
Helps make them "not a stranger"
