- Seppelt Para Liqueur Tawny 1947
Interesting trying these in pairs.
The Winston Churchill (one of three 99 pointers we tried) was elegance, balance and class. The Dom was very fruity and a bit flabby, in comparison.
The Vat 1 was lovely, but very young. The Lovedale was more advanced, and all the better for it.
The Wendouree tasted like cough medicine, not for me, nor most of the group. Way too much aniseed and eucalyptus. The Basket Press was pure smouldering class - WOTN (jointly with the Winston Churchill) for me.
The Robert Parker 99 point show down was a privilege - the Astralis was big and opulent, but WIP. The Standish wasn't ready, or it was a bad example (probably the latter, given this was meant to be a 99 pointer).
The Grand Cru Alsace and the Noble One matched well with the desserts.
The 70 year old Para Liqueur was history in a glass. Not the best Para vintage. But a privilege to try.
So blessed.
