WP treatment in Y

Seems my experience differs greatly from most. 3 years WP, this year about to hit WP+PG.

Most of my travel is domestic Y... so quite a number of flights per year.

Never received an upgrade, don't ever seem to have a 'WP shadow', never received a personal hello... Got a letter last week saying welcome to life time silver though...

I was in 6A last night flying back to Mel on quite an empty 737. All middle seats were vacant back to around row 10 I think. Sure enough some bloke comes and sits in 6B. If everyone in the front half of the plane was WP then I guess it was just unlucky. I doubt that was the case though. Why would they allocate seating like that?

There's been no moment where I've felt WP made any difference to anything. My experience is it doesn't really differ from silver or gold. Still end up queuing in the premium boarding lane with silver & golds anyway.

My experiences are similar to yours. Granted I haven't been WP for as long as you. Though on QF565 they were gracious enough to spill scorching hot coffee all over me. An email to QF managed to get my laundry costs reimbursed. Very generous of them.

On all CX routes? I shall have to try that in future!

as vitagen says... only on routes where prem economy seating is available but not offered for sale. there's one SIN-HKG service a day (77W four class sold as three) and one service HKG-PVG vv a day (747 four class sold as two). there must be others as well like to TPE and stuff but they're not all that common.

the fall back of course is free of charge exit rows. in a way it's almost a good thing that non cx can't allocate until the airport as there are frequent aircraft swaps... would hate to give up an exit for a prem Y and then have the aircraft changed and be sitting in the middle.

This happens to me quite often. I think it is just luck where some middle seats are allocated depending on whether the person has changed during OLCI, at the kiosk, at check-in, in the lounge or at the gate.

I have only been WP for about a month, but have taken nine QF domestic flights in that time (I think).

I have maybe seen evidence of WP shadow on one of these nine flights, which was nearly full and the middle seat next to me was empty, but I do wonder if it was just coincidence. I have not seen any evidence of WP shadow on the four coast-to-coast flights I've taken so far as WP.

Out of the nine flights I have been greeted by name on most when boarding, but so have all passengers around me (simply reading from the boarding pass, so no special WP treatment there), although on one of today's flights a FA greeted me by name when offering me the standard Y meal service. I have also been approached during a two-hour-or-so flight by one FA to greet me personally, which surprised me (I was in the second-to-back row, so she had a long walk from the front) -- no offer of anything 'special', but it was nice; I appreciated the gesture.

I'll be interested to see if I receive any other 'special treatment'. As SG I only ever saw it on QFi, but they did treat me very well then. A shame I don't have any QF international flights lined up. :(

mrpooky.

I have noticed that in-seat greetings are occurring with more frequency on domestic flights.

Nothing special - just a personalized "Welcome back Mr Dfcatch, can I offer you a bottle of water".

But hey - it's appreciated, with a nice crew it always comes across as genuine, and it doesn't cost QF anything.

First flight as WP PER-SYD two days ago.. Sat first row of Y. Didn't receive any acknowledgement or special service.. I am 20 years old.. And check in staff took a double take on me.. And the staff in F lounge definitely thought it was strange me and a mate were in there by ourself.. Was plenty of fun however!

maybe some extra treatment going home on Monday.. I'm not fussed either way.. The f lounge makes up for it!!

Interestingly, I have had 3 flights so far this week where there were 7 seats spare in J on a 738 and no one appears to have been upgraded. I was in 4C each time.

Have another two flights later today with similar loads. I would have thought that a P1 would get a bump up in those circumstances (I know - from looking at the CSM's ipad - that I was the only P1 on at least 2 of those past flights and no CL/VIP).

Let's see how we go....

Congrats on reaching Platinum!

However I'm disappointed this wasn't acknowledged on board. Please let me know how you go with your return flight. :)

Special service is always reserved for those seated in J - always has been always will be.

My partner has been P1 for two months and has never been acknowledged once (she flies twice a week in Y). She has however received two op-ups to J which never happened while she was WP - pretty decent at once a month currently.

Is there a list of those flights anywhere?

With all due respect, I can count on both hands the number of times i've been acknowledged as a Platinum on a domestic flight. The international crew typically have a far greater percentage though!

I can count on one. One finger that is.

(on domestic) :)

When I first hit platinum at 21 more than 10 years ago, I was constantly carded for ID in qf lounges. Also once asked'is this your dads FF card?' in Syd FLounge.

Enjoy being a young WP :)

My experience of excellent service in Y as a WP is usually always when you have an experienced QFi crew on a Dom run.

Red Roo,

I have been lucky - up until yesterday I had only had one A380 flight in Y.

Every other A380 flight has been F (with one in J).

That said - the one Y flight I had back in 2011 was the best Int Y treatment that I had received. I suspected at the time that the QCCA crews are simply much better. (I have had greetings etc on the 747 in Y, but it hasn't "grabbed me by the balls" so to speak).

I also don't think it's fair to include in-seat welcomes and greetings when in Premium classes - as it's a different creature.

I have just tripled my A380 Y experiences in the last two days. The first flight was excellent in terms of crew and personal greeting.

The second was simply mind-blowing. I will PM you the details and the names of the crew - but I'm still sitting here gobsmacked at just how impressive it was.

Not that I want to go out of my way to fly at the back of the bus ;)...., but it ha certainly left me looking forward to my next A380 Y experience (preferably experienced from Rows 1-5) :)

dfcatch,

Care to share with us why you were gobsmacked? Although your last sentence does give it away.. Surely it's better off not telling RedRoo these details? As it may not happen again!?

To be fair to QF, there's likely to be a more WP (raw numbers and % of pax) on domestic compared to international.

That was me being a smartass ;). Unfortunately - no I was not upgraded, I maintained my seat in whY, and actually lost my shadow.

It was quite a number of series of things and genuinely good attitudes by staff on board. I can't comment on how WPs in F/J/PE were treated, but I was clearly the only WP in my area of Y.

I was definitely made to feel that my custom was appreciated, crew took initiatives to ensure that I was comfortable and did so in a manner that did not negatively impact other pax.

But I'll detail the individual efforts of individual staff members to Red Roo for internal follow up :)

Lucky!! I would have been damn jealous if you weren't being a smart cough... ;)
