WP treatment in Y

QF634 Christmas eve, CSM stopped for a chat in row 4. We got boxes of chocolates and a thank you for continuing to fly with QF. Drinks from the J were offered and happily consumed.

Bland flight last night on QF6 SIN-SYD.

CSM briefly introduced himself handing out inbound immigration cards and mentioned that flight is full and if there is anything he can do not to hesitate to ask. I did not bother them.

Sometime bland flights are good. Food was OK and managed ~4 hours sleep.

QF127 SYD - HKG.. The flight was full. Family was in J and I was in Y (Yes I was being Santa! Nice guy!)

In flight moved from Y to PE as two PE PAXs elected to off-load due to health issues. CSM came up to me and offered to move me to PE cabin.

Return QF128.. totally Bland flight. No Greeting by CSM or CSS. No J amenties. No recognition. I had to ask twice for Express Pass. Glad I did as on arrival Sydney Airport was chokers.. as usual! So the express pass worked well for me.

Am assuming your priority luggage worked too? Twice on arrival to SYD from CHC, priority luggage has not worked for me meaning that the benefits of the express path card have been wiped out as the queue at customs got so long that they just started sending everybody down the express path so I had a choice of which very long queue to join once I had my bags.

Actually did get held-up at Immigration as the Auto Gates were not working properly and the "assistance desk" was busy. At the time I reached the carousel my luggage was there and then I just breezed through the express lane. General lanes were
very long.

CBR-MEL-CBR last week, the usual greeting when boarding but nothing else. I suppose the FAs were too busy fussing over the passengers with ankle-biters (that seemed to be just behind us on both flights!)
Haven't had any special treatment since I don't know when...

If travelling as a WP in international Y and I queue up at the First check in counter, do I need to flash my WP card when I get to the counter to prove I deserve to be there or do I let the agent work it out by checking her computer? Also, can my travel companions who are not WP check in with me? Thanks.

i have never shown a card at Qantas check-in. just turn up and they'll access your booking and see your eligibility from that.

part 2... depends how many travelling companions you have! one or two shouldn't be a problem. the footy team? probably not.

I think it's more than okay to let them work it out; they'll have no qualms in kicking out ineligible passengers if that's found to be the case.

Yes. They'll likely get express cards and priority tags too. It's not something I want to abuse - I wouldn't do it if in a large group and I was the only one with status.

As long as you have your QFF WP number in the booking, you should be fine without the physical card.

Just in case you are contemplating an AA Plat challenge!

I am yet to hear of anyone whose close family (+1, children) gets turned away.

Well all the F and J pax who are worried that all the WP pax in other classes are stealing their champagne fear not.

My wife and I with our daughter (WP, SG and PS respectively) got a welcome from the CSM on QF127 last Thursday thanking us for flying and offering any assistance to make the flight more comfortable. She specifically if we'd like something to drink to which we responded a glass of champagne would be nice. The CSM said ok and returned with a bottle of Jacobs Creek sparkling and a plastic cup.

A few minutes later the drinks service started and the attendant noticed that I already had an unopened drink. He looked at me and said... 'not what you were expecting was it?'

somewhat unprofessional of the second crew member. even if it was in jest.

but otherwise, unfortunately I think it is a positive move.

A more positive move would be to add a few bottles of champagne to each flight keep giving WPs special treatment when they are flying Y.
It's not much really, a few glasses of champagne, headphones from J and express pass. It benefits Qantas to take care of its elites more then the cost of providing these extras.

I actually didn't mind second crew member's response - he brought a little humour to an otherwise awkward moment. And to be honest, I found the crew on the flight to be overall disengaged from the passengers, so it was probably the only genuine interaction all flight.

I don't disagree that it can be seen as a positive, but I don't see the harm in asking when you are directly posed the question. I would have preferred a straight answer along the lines of 'champagne is reserved for business and first passengers, can I bring you something else instead?'

champagne. headphones from J. others report having received PJs or amenity kits from J.

if those are being sought then should buy a J fare? (I mean sometimes it's hard enough to get those even when you have purchased the premium fare.)

If bottles of champagne are being kept for platinums in Y, then do a few extra bottle of F champagne have to be kept for platinums in J?

Any why is it in F we run out? surely the extra bottles should be loaded and kept in the cabin they were intended for?

I had the distinct impression WP's liked to feel special, and expected to be treated accordingly, wherever they sit; after all they got there by flying a lot and spending a bucket of money.

A good solution is to stock enough alcohol to keep F & J happy and also to offer 1 or 2 glasses to WPs flying in Y (I'm sure not everyone drink champagne).
Qantas is very cheap with upgrades so providing some extras to elites flying Y is not too much to ask IMHO.

Each time i'm greeted by a CSM and offered anything I say with a cheeky smile "I don't suppose there's a chance of a glass of bubbles from up the front is there?" and i'm always bought a glass back. On some occasions, the glasses have also been constantly refilled too without me asking (and I wouldn't ask after the first glass).

It's a small gesture on behalf of QF. J bubbles are fine, i'm not going to demand the pointy pointy end bottle :)

That's also our experience. It's hard to say no to Billecart when it keeps getting poured. : )
