WP treatment in Y

I know its not with QF but recent experience flying MEL-KUL on MH as a QFWP. Nothing.

KUL-HKG on CX722 however, had 2 greetings, Mrs who is a PS got a greeting too, bottles of water and a glass of billecart

A more positive move would be to add a few bottles of champagne to each flight keep giving WPs special treatment when they are flying Y.
It's not much really, a few glasses of champagne, headphones from J and express pass. It benefits Qantas to take care of its elites more then the cost of providing these extras.

Inbound Express passes are already given out at check-in at your hometown (SYD, MEL...), even in Y flying out.

I was referring to the EP given when returning to OZ.

Yes, we are referring to the same thing.

What I meant was as it is already given out (to WPs) at SYD/MEL check-in, there is no need to look out for the EPs on returning to Oz.

Never, in my experience over the last two years, at least. (And that's many such trips.) However, doesn't affect us, as we use Smart Gate for re-entry and have never had to queue for that - again on many re-entries, although I have seen the odd report from others that there has been a queue on occasion. The EP for the outward bound leg is always provided at Check In, of course.

Strange

This is what I received from QF on the last 3-4 occasions on check in @ SYD flying F, J and PE.

Also for my NB wife as well.

(This card was received yesterday on check-in @ SYD)

Did you refer to QF ?

Interesting. Last few times I checked in at MEL Dom for flights ex SYD and only received the outward EP. Maybe they don't keep inward EPs at Dom counters.

Yes, QF. But the great majority of our flights originate in Melbourne, so perhaps the Sydney Check In service is different and I've simply not noticed on the rare occasions that we have checked in there in recent times?
Can comment only on my own experience, of course, but certainly no Inbound EPs from the Melbourne F desk - for us, anyway, as Plat 1. (Then again, as I said earlier, it doesn't matter to me.:))
Perhaps if you don't have a SmartGate friendly passport and you ask at MEL Check In, they could be available? Worth a try.

Why do we make the assumption that champagne is what is required to make a Platinum feel special in economy?

exactly... although given what people ask for you would think those premium items are what makes them feel special.

seriously - why do so many platinums ask for premium amenities (alcohol, headphones, PJs, amenity kits)?

The only thing I have ever asked for was a particular meal from the menu as I couldn't eat one of the two choices. CSM was happy to arrange and there was no possibility that 'refusal could offend'.

French champagne is associated with luxury and it's a popular drink in J & F.
Offering WPs sitting in Y a glass of champagne before departure is a good way for QF to make them feel special at a relatively low cost.
It's something QF started and although I'm not a big champagne drinker, I think it's a nice gesture.

AHHHH...the 'relatively low cost' of loading a few extra bottles of champagne on EVERY flight 'just in case'!! or loading a few extra 'other amenities' from J/C OR F/C to offer to Y/C WPs...'just in case'....'JUST IN CASE' THEN ADDS UP TO A RELATIVELY HIGH COST!! if you get extra 'stuff'...be thankful ..if you don't...oh well!! it's the pax that expect/are disappointed when they don't receive 'unpublished benefits/stuff' and they kick up a fuss...that spoils it for the rest of us!! WPs complaining to cabin crew ...."why don't/didn't I get that".."i got it on my last flight"..you get the gist of it...it actually gets back to the 'office' because cabin crew don't know 'where they stand'!! they get abused if they do....or if they don't!! so then the airline puts out a memo saying "DONT OFFER ANY 'NICEITIES TO WPs in Y/C...BECAUSE OF THE COMPLAINTS"...for gods sake...if you get them...keep your big mouth shut!!!!

If it is offered would you refuse it? Some CSMs bring one or more of those items when they do the welcome on board. It doesn't happen that often but it does happen.

I only ask (if not offered) for noise cancelling headphones. Never been refused. Don't drink alcohol nor ask for special meals.

As a nice touch the other day from KGI to PER in whY, i had no welcome by the CSM (short flight so why bother) and it doesnt bother me if they do or not, i love a chat with the CSM for sure (who doesn't) but anyways at the end of the flight the CSM brought me a full bottle of wine to enjoy when i got home.

I dont drink wine nor was on my way home but i love those suprises and reckon its awesome of QF to do that but i wouldnt complain if they didnt do that but praise them when they do ;)

and if it does happen..accept or decline the offerings...graciously...and don't ramble on or give your own 'suggestions'!! ...believe it or not..most cabin crew will give within available stock/discretionary limits...in Y/C they still have to be discrete/cautious because of the masses 'watching their every move'!!!

Relax. Don't get so excited. If you read the post that you quoted more carefully you would understand that I was complimenting QF for offering champagne to WPs flying Y. It's a small gesture QF started (I never saw pax help themselves to drinks from J) and it's a much cheaper way to show some extra care to WPs compared to offering a full upgrade to J.
TBH you sound like a frustrated ex cabin crew to me.

just pointing out that a 'small gesture' champagne can/does lead to other issues...which are 'snowballed' by website like these!!!!...believe it or not...im just giving you the bigger picture

Believe it or not I feel somewhat embarassed with the attention (especially the time I was op-upped to premium economy and had 3 CSMs come around to pay me a visit) and wonder what the people around me are thinking.

One time CSM came down with an amenity kit for myself in 43H and another Platinum sitting in 43K but also gave an amenity kit to 43J who did not have any status and was not travelling with either of us. I thought it was a kind gesture.
