Yet another cost saving measure - new FF cards

If I earned the right to a new Rolls Royce each year, and Rolls Royce delivered next years model painted in primer only - I would be dissapointed. My point is simply, the card will function the same, take up approx the same space in my wallet, be removed from my wallet on the same frequency as usual, get me into airline lounges across the world, but - and yes there's always a but - its not the same....

A model T with a new coat of paint and a set of mag wheels is still a model T (seeing as I started the car thing...)

I want my card embossed!

But the GE card has a varying texture.

Can't do a scan until next week as I'm off to NZ and I filed my new card. (I don't use the new ones until the old one has expired as mine tend to wear out)

Would be nice if it was for tighter integration with Woolworths, 1 card is better than 2.

Woolowrths can't even integrate their everydayrewards card with their own everydaymoney credit card -- mine now has a scan stuck to the back of it (one less card)

Non-embossed cards are also thinner - less space in wallet

The QF Memebership card is only to show that one is a member, not the actual item of value in itself. The actual membership benefits have not changed

How do you emboss a car? ;)

There's a thing about style here, not just functionality or utility. Which is fair enough. My comment was more on the utility (i.e. print fades), but everyone's situation varies.

But the GE card has a varying texture.

That is true - nice design and what not. I'd imagine that having varying texture is more expensive than embossing.

If you want to talk practicalities, a problem with varying texture cards is that they are easier to dirty, i.e. run your unclean fingers across the card and the raised texture will catch on whatever is on them.

I must say I am not impressed with my AA entry level "card" - which sticks to anything and everything - but I guess if you don't have status and there must be millions of such people, you don't want to be expending that much hard plastic for them.

Whilst we're talking style, PC has a boring card - some schmuck could whip up the design in two minutes - HH isn't much better but at least it tries to look a bit stylish. HPC is plain but has the embossing thing going. SPG is the best of the hotel cards that I have, even though I am a nothing with the program.

I still have my MH Enrich card from waaaaaay back. A very boring dark blue card (just plain - no gradient fill) with a single stylised "E" in the background and white text.

+1. The QF card is really the keys to the car not the car itself, change the RR itself and it's problem. But change the keys, as long as they still work then it really doesn't matter.

FWIW, I have a SQ PPS card - not embossed. Looks as good as/better than my embossed QFF WP card and it's printing has not faded at all.

I can't see a reason to be concerned about it; not needed that often and as long as it does the job, it's fine with me

I cannot see any need for embossing, there arnt any things that the card is used for that makes use of it being embossed

Dave

+1..... mmmm who on earth cares! Well clearly some do.

Love the chicken little sky is falling threads though for a laugh;):p

Ho Hum - give a sh!te!. The Murray Mouth is a bigger disaster!

JB

Yep - still Ho Hum! Now that I've retired, my "business card" is a 4"x4" piece of white paper - and you'd better be thankful if it isn't embossed (dark brown!)

JB

To be honest, the only time I use the card is international check-in or if I can't OLCI. Embossed is nice, but as you get a new one every year - OK by me

I agree with Ikara.
Who gives a s**t if the card is embossed or not. As long as the benefits haven't changed and your still a WP, why have a cry?
BTW, who also makes the decisions on your travel budget, someone above you or you? Perks of the job in my view. I'm just happy to have QP heavily discounted through my work's corp scheme. If l flew more, l'd be QF Gold. Simple.

My NOV replacement WP card has just arrived in the mail - tacky, not embossed, just printed info on the card - shame on you QFF - this card is for members who spend $$$ on flying - you give me a card I could have printed with a $300 printer from officeworks...

It also has a bar code on the back - is this goining to be for paperless boarding cards for the scanner at the gate to read?

Come on QFF - I hope you spy's are reading this post and you realize you have pissed of a member again, even if it is just a card.... hmmm - $95K travel budget last year - I am sure I could spend that elsewhere....

Mr!

I have to agree with munitalP.... The car analogy is pertinent. When you get into a Rolls Royce you don't start it with a piece of barbed wire, do you?
Humans are very tactile creatures and how something feels in the hand and looks to the eye is very important.

I disagree.

1 You also have to look at it from a share holder point of view. If QF manage to save 5cents per card, it all adds up.
2 Most of the time, the card is in you wallet.

Most of the time, the card is in you wallet.

Nah, I pasted mine to my forehead, so that everyone knows I'm a WP.

Embossed, gilded, wooden, titanium etc don't really affect my experience or impress me that much. I'd rather they spend time improving the other 'benefits' of the scheme for members.

You might start a trend!

Next step is for me to get it tattooed onto my arm for easy access when a lounge dragon asks for my card. The only thing stopping me is I don't know if Qantas will end up granting me Chairman's Lounge one day - and that would be an expensive tattoo removal process.

The new card.

I'm guessing this has been rolled out across all cards, so should I be expecting this with my new QClub card which is arriving at the office next week?

Yes, still so poor and lacking airtime that my paid QClub membership is the best I can do. Sigh.
