My best would have been the EK MEL-AKL, AUD$99 each way.

Got the email offering J upgrade for AUD$130 to AKL, and then upgraded to F for free, so AUD$229 for F from MEL to AKL.

On the way back, got the same offer for NZD$130 and upgraded to J.

The 3 biggest deals of the last 10 years, and I didn't get any of them. :(

Ex CMB to JFK for USD $1,000 allowing Australia as a side trip.

JFK-KEF (Keflavik, Iceland) $61 at cheaptickets.com

British Airways WT+ SEA-HEL R/T $20 USD.

I guess I haven't got anything like the above 3 examples and I haven't got anything that has been dirt cheap, but I think I have had a few deals that maybe weren't the cheapest but I had a good experience from them.

My best has probably been the BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE runs with Air Pacific, thanks to AFF. All up $1334 or so, and ranging from 360SC to 520SC.

1. I got 360SCs from my trip back in March for $1334.00 which got me on the way to Qantas Platinum.
2. An AFF inspired one, BNE-SYD-HBA costing 26,000 points + $58 in tax and earning 100SCs.
3. Flying on the inaugural Pacific Blue flight on the 29 January 2004 for $129.00
4. Flying into Paine Field as part of StarMegaDo2 and looking inside a 787.
5. Inaugural flight of the SQ A380 for $1,100.00 on the 26 October 2007.
Are there any real good deals now????

Just keep looking.

Without a doubt best ever flight was 18 months ago Dubai to Luxor (Egypt) for four, booked online flight taken and never charged to credit card:p

In 2007 we managed to fly from Toronto to Larnarca (Cyprus) via Rome and Milan in J (Business) Class on Alitalia and Cyprus Air for $US38.00 each. The mix up was with Expedia posting fares that we figure should have been the same but with the decimal point two positions to the right. They honoured the fares and the flights were fantastic.

I bet you wished you had booked a better class of fare :!:

My best deal was SYD-PER for $35, it also had a connection to Port Headland which I seemed to miss, and the SCs/points were a bonus!

With hindsight not that exciting, but at the time it was great (2001)... domestic BNE>SYD sector of the Ansett 747 from KIX. Booked the ticket at 11pm the night before. $40.

Two free round the world tickets in 1986! We had bought round the world paper tickets from the US to start in Australia from a dodgy travel agent. In case of a problem we bought one way tickets to Australia but didn't use them as we just folded over the other tickets. We returned the unused one way tickets for a refund and got a refund for everything...then couldn't contact the travel agency again. Our credit card had a positive balance for ages as we waited for someone to realise their mistake.

About 10 years ago United Airlines had a $20 Melbourne - Auckland return deal which I took for family during peak school holiday time. $100 for all - not bad. Passports cost four times as much.

I was messing around on the internet just before easter 2009, and managed to come up with LAX - SYD on Hawaiian for 2 adults and 3 kids for the grand total of $ 100. Of course I booked it straight away hoping that it would "stick".

Problem was I then had to book the rest of the holiday around those flights at that time, but we had a great holiday in Honolulu, Vegas and LA.

Hawaiian turned out to be a gem of an airline - great service, very helpful check in people and nothing was too much trouble for them, even with a toddler!

Welcome to AFF, that airline has had some real good mistake fares which more often than not have been honoured!

Thanks Markis - nearly 7,000 posts - unbelievable. I read the forum all the time, but for some reason my original registration didn't work, so its taken all this time up until now to spend the 30 seconds to do it again so I could post!!!!!

Yes, I must say the Hawaiian experience has me going back to their website checking out fares all the time, just in case!!! They also have some great fares between HON and Vegas, Pheonix, and LA that are well worth watching too. I think we paid $US 74 each on that trip for HON to Pheonix.

I don't know how it happened
SYD-LHR-SYD with BA J class March this year $4000.00 + upgrade to Fclass for 1000.00 not bad:D

Not much to share here, compare to all the others have posted here. A lot of them I saw the deals but just could not "execute" it due to time constraints.

Anyway my best deal is SYD-ADL on TT $19 one-way, and it was actually ontime and uneventful!

I must admit that I have been lucky in finding a few bargains over the years.
One very fond travel memory is from nearly 30 years ago.
Eastern Airlines were one of the US majors at that time (along with PamAnn).

They had just introduced airpasses for so called alien visitors. So I looked up and purchased the most expensive one available. It cost US$300 for 30 days of coach class travel on a standby basis. I flew all over the US, absolutely loved it, had at least 30 flights if I recall. And in those days, coach had meals, leg room, no baggage fees, and no mobile phone noise pollution.

If I wasn't hooked on air travel by 1981, then I think it was this Eastern Airlines airpass that locked it in. Happy travels, John.

We were lucky enough to snare a 1 penny flight from Prestwick (Glasgow) in Scotland to Shannon in Ireland in 2008. Taxes brought the fare up to just under 20 pounds but the closest fare to that on other airlines at the time was 176 pounds. So, for 40 pounds for 2 people, we had a wonderful flight to Ireland. Don't bother paying for extras like early check in etc unless you have very young children. We all get on board in the end and we even managed to find seats together towards the front of the aircraft (not the safest seats according to experts) which is where we prefer to sit.

When planning your holiday, register on line with as many sites as possible and check emails regularly. The above flight had just been posted so its first in best dressed.
