Is it me, or does the J seating look very average? JQ Business?
Or does the photo not do justice?

The Boeing people told me they were just mock Boeing seats......not rated for take off or landing along with most of the whY seats in the cabin. The only seats rated for safety are located at the rear & thats where everyone had to sit until seatbelt sign off.

The Boeing rep's also said that they have been on tour since Nov last year flying around the world showing the AC to clients.....4 weeks on, 1 week off. Now that's what I call FIFO, and no Hi Vis to be seen;)

And no SC's....

But it would be an awesome assignment.

Cheers for the heads up Amaroo.

Ewing question about your video set up.

It is awesomely steady - like you had a tripod.

How did you do this?

Nothing that sophisticated I'm afraid. Here's me and my gear shooting the takeoff: http://drop.shaun.net/2xdI

I did however apply a stabilisation filter prior to uploading. You still need a steady shot to begin with but it takes out some of the shaking.

Some of the forward Y middle seats are also rated. That's where the QF and Boeing execs (eg: David Hall, Olivia Wirth, etc) sat during takeoff and landing on my flights.

The rear Y seats had significantly more pitch though so I think we got the better end of the deal :)

Of course as soon as the seatbelt sign went off everyone stood and explored the plane and started mingling.

Hvr and Ansett - apparently the bus was leaving a bit earlier!

I've been advised it will return shortly.

Nice to meet both of you.

Thanks to Red Roo/ QF for the chance to have a walk through :)

Hi everyone

have just returned from the Mlebourne viewing and will post some pictures later.

Fist off have to say thank you to Red roo and Qantas for organising this it was very good to see the 787 in real life.

Secondly and this may be controverial whilst I was impressed with the exterior of the aircraft along with the ambience of the interior I am concerned that the clearance for those between the loclers and seats in Seats A and C, and what ever the opposite side of the aircraft will be, is very tight at 5 foot 7 I couldnt stand up straight in A nd B and only jiust managed it C. For those of you less vertically challenged than myslef I do so pity you.

The lack of headroom was not only limited to economy it was as bad and indeed worse at the pointy end of the aircraft where the fuselage narrows and the roof drops to allow for the curvature of the nose. I can imagine only small people in seats 1 and possibley 2 A so Bossreggie you may need to reconsider seating in the event that you take a 787 flight.

The overhead lockers where nice if only people were forced to use one standard bag and one standard bag only it would make those bins even better still.

Whilst I still loook forward to flying on 787 I am not in so much of a hurry now.

The jetstar staff also advised that they have gone with the 3-3-3 cabin configured for 338 passengers so looks cramme. Bear in mind maximum single class configuration is 381

As I say nice aircraft but no longer in such a rush to fly on her.

im sure some will disagree with me but it is my opinion.

Thanks again Red Roo and Qantas. Also great to meet some other AFFers atlast too hope you all got home safe. Cheers Mr and Mrs Ansett

And now I am back in CBR. Very big thanks to Red Roo and Qantas for this opportunity. Photos etc to follow.

On my flight from CBR-MEL the staff were very interested to hear about me having the opportunity to do the tour and were hoping to do it themselves.

The staff doing the ID checks were very efficient and we all got on the bus and off we went. I loved looking over the plane and will post some more thoughts soon with the photos.

Upon my return to the QF J lounge for my return trip the phone beeped with a missed call and text advising my return flights were changed. A quick chat with the lounge angel, asked to leave it with her, and a few minutes later all was fixed.

Now in the CBR J Lounge fare welling Oz Fest participants and showing them the initial photos.

Ok

Here are two shots standing up in front of the window seat in the first then in position of the middle seat in the second. As I say I am only 5 foot 7 so for the taller of you out their I think it may be a very tight squeeze.

Does the height above the seat matter? As long as the isle is high enough?

I think qualities like the comfort and noise are more relevant, if for example it rides like the 380 then I'm looking forward to trying it.

I agree whole heartedly with you and I am still looking forward to flying her to see if it is as good or better than the 380 product howver I am not in as big a rush as I was before.

As I say looks like a great aircraft just commenting on the head height which if you need to get up and out may become a bit of a head banging session for some taller than myself

The height looks no different to any other aircraft. You can't stand up in the seat and not hit the overhead locker. I can't think of one the you can.

Spotted the 787 this morning in Sydney, as we were taxiing out on QF510. It would have been at the same time the Sydney crew were having their walkthrough I think.

I waved :D
