Your chance to see Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner in Australia

Do they look bigger (either in their own right, or proportionally to the plane) than the engines on a 777? Cause those puppies are massive.

I haven't seen a 777 IRL  but on the 787 they seem very big in proportion to the fuselage/wings vs other aircraft.

I will be able to ask al those questions tomorrow at the walk through

That really is ! :-) AFAIK the 777 engines still hold the record for most powerful engine on a commercial airliner, but most powerful doesn't necessarily translate to biggest.

Oops, just remembered I flew HKG-LHR on a BA 777. It was 23:45 at the time so I have no real recollection of the engines being particularly large. And I had spent 8 hours in the J lounge.

*slinks away in shame*

Congratulations to those who scored a close up look.
For the rest of us there are currently some good pics here of the 787 in Sydney from yesterday.

According to the GE site the GEnx engine on the 787 is 111 inches (2.82m) in diameter.
The GE9-115B (largest engine on the 777) is 135 inches (3.43m) in diameter.

Engines probably look larger proportionately on the 787.

Thanks for the info and photos - agree that the engines do look massive in proportion to the plane, particular in the front-on shots!

Time for me to go to bed. My SYD-BNE flight on N787BX departs in 12 hours...

I thought the sydney viewing was on Monday 28 May, as I'm due to land in Sydney at 8:30 that morning. Have I missed my flight? ;)

I just happened to be in the First Lounge, and took these photos. (I should have brought a longer lens.)
