Your Favourite Airline Ad Past and Present

I quite liked the BA one too...

... the current DJ one is a bit funky, with them strutting their stuff in new uniforms.

I'm over the annual remix of 'I still call Australia home' - was fine in the first iteration.

By far the new Virgin Australia commercial ranks right up there. The final scene with the jets releasing red and white smoke is awesome.

For me, it has to be this 1980's classic from Pan Am after their integration with National:

Very upbeat, cheery, a brilliant strapline with a tune that can get stuck in your head.

A Blast from the past...

Perhaps not a specific advertisement, but a campaign, I still think of Ansett whenever I hear Enya's "Storms in Africa".

An example in the One of the World's Great Airlines. If you read through the captions on this advertisement, Ansett obviously didn't achieve this level of greatness but still very relevant today.

For some reason CX Barry White's Loves Theme sticks in my jingo line......even after all these years.

Do you think I can find a YouTube of it??? No luck yet.

I have fond memories of the TAA ads from my youth. I also seem to recall an ad that used that song "leaving on a jetplane", whatever it is called.

Enya and Storms in Africa/AN is very memorable as well. I was starting to fly a lot and always thought it was a good song choice.

CX and Barry White... That's taking me way back. My first ever trip to Europe with my parents when I was very young was on a CX 747, and they played the music during boarding. Still takes me back when I hear it.

Yanni takes me straight back to the BA ad with all the people running around in the field, like the Carlton Draught Big Ad.

Isn't it funny how strong an association you can have with something just from music. It takes you back instantly.

Fairground by Simply Red was another that reminds me of AN.

The irony about "Shine" used in the last AN ad's prior to their final demise, was that Vanessa Amorosi wrote the song in memory of a friend that committed suicide. It was a sad song.

Of course, if we're talking airline alliance ads, this one has to be right up there with the most memorable:

YouTube - ‪Pam Ann Global Alliance‬‏

United did a great series that aired in the USA in the late 80's with Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue behind them... can't see any on YouTube to share, though.

Seem to remember one had stills of people in 9-5 jobs, between captions showing how many days holiday people got each year, country-by-country. Australia came first with 40~ something days (!) and it got lower as it showed the UK, Japan and then finally the US with a couple of dozen days, and then the tag was allong the lines of "You don't get many days off each year - use them wisely" then the ad closed with shots of United plans and the (then) new terminal at O'Hare...

If I still remember it after 25 years, it pushed my buttons, I guess.

There is one that sits in the back of mind constantly from my childhood, which was an Australian Airlines (nee TAA) ad from the early 90's. The lyrics were along the lines of:

Oh ... you ... should ... see us now, look at the way we fly.
We're kicking up our tails and heading for the sky.
So we'd like to show you how Australian's done it.
You should see us, come on and try us. You should see us, come on and fly us.
You should see us, NOW!

Likewise I can't find any YouTube links for it, but that won't leave my mind for a while!

[EDIT]
Strike that last comment, I found them!
