Your Favourite Airline Ad Past and Present

On topic, sometime ago I started to compile a Youtube playlist with as many unique examples of Australian Airline commercials.

So far I've managed to find about 120 examples, both recent and historic (oldest one is around 1970's), and a fair few examples from long gone carriers like Ansett, TAA and Australian - including some from their "You should see us now" series.

If you'd like to relive some history, the collection playlist can be viewed at:

If you find any examples around the place not on that list, PM me so I can add them and expand the collection.

Not a single Compass ad

Not that their ads were great examples of ads though

Were they really first with inflight videos??
YouTube - ‪Compass Airlines 1991‬‏

Just checked the playlist, and Youtube is telling me there's at least 3 Compass examples in there.

Having said that, have just gone hunting for some more from them to be added - and you are right, their ads were just awful.

And here's another classic Aussie ad, and the oldest one I've been able to find online so far. It's a 1965 piece for QF, featuring some sheep and a very fast talking John Clarke.

I've got my doubts on the 1965 date. Not sure where the ad was shown (maybe NZ, given the price), but it wouldn't have been in colour then.

(and if the character is Fred Dagg, then that was from the mid 70's)

There is another ad which supposedly is also from 1965 yet it features a 747 taking off, bloomin good trick to be taking off in a 747 in 1965!

Cheers

No footage for this but ISTR Bob Dyer on Pick-A-Box (!) used to throw in an occasional informal plug (and a take on the official slogan of the time) for one of the show's sponsors - "Fly TAA the friendly way, don't chance it with Ansett", (or something like that).

Looking at the other adds in the series it seems that the legroom in Y back then was a lot more then what it is these days.

Fred Dagg & the Koala, that's one dreadful ad. Makes me cringe thinking this is how Australians were presented way back when.
