Nice find. I assume bankruptcy gives an option to clear all of these.

Interesting. I can see how some were abusing it, but then I can also read one gave his miles to AIDS sufferers to see family, so he's not evil. And the fact the elite agents helped them book extra seats sort of shifts the blame.

I've got some extra seats coming up on flights soon, but I paid for mine.

It cost basically just under a million in today's money, all I need to do now is work out which kidney I don't need, and invent a time machine...

Re: The Frequent Fliers Who Flew Too Much - LA Times

Absolutely amazing, over 30,000,000 bis miles, crazy!

It was offered in 2004 for $3m USD. A significant mark-up (and not one was sold).

What a fascinating and well-written article. Great read.

I guess the biggest problem with these AirPasses - which has gone unmentioned - is that at the end of the day you're stuck flying AA.

When I read this quote, I thought of this forum and its collective intelligence!

Exactly. You couldn't pay me $350,000 to fly 30 million miles on AA!!

Not quite - it is a Oneworld carrier so fly and earn on AA then book awards on CX...

I VERY much doubt that the unlimited AirPass would include partner airlines. If it did, AA would be in bankruptcy... oh wait... well, I doubt it did anyway.

It said one of the former users of it went to Sydney, so either AA actually flew the route in the past, or didn't and they codeshared.

They are able to earn points so I guess they could use them to book flights on partner airlines...

Imagine if QF offered it

This AAirpass Q&A page suggests no:

Q: Can AAirpass members use their AAirpass on oneworld partners?
A: No, AAirpass may only be used on American Airlines[SUP]®[/SUP], American Eagle[SUP]®[/SUP] or AmericanConnection[SUP]®[/SUP]

I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but there is also the issue of how wise it is to essentially lend hundreds of thousands (or millions) of dollars as an unsecured creditor to an organisation that has roughly a 100% probability of restructuring in bankruptcy within ten years.

They may have used some of their 30 million miles to fly QF to get here :)

The article clearly says they earn points so as already mentioned fly AA on the pass in F, then use the points to book awards on other airlines.
