We have today launched the first stage of our new Velocity Frequent Flyer program.

There has been months of research and feedback from the frequent flying community, especially the AFF collective, and now we can finally reveal how we have re-built from the ground up, a program that we believe is world class.

A program that now offers:

  • Global flight coverage with over 600 services around the world
  • Enhanced flight rewards, with more options to redeem Points for seats
  • Improved Points earn rates and status earning methods
  • Transformed status privileges and unique benefits for travellers and their families
  • A new Platinum level of membership with exclusive benefits
  • New program partners including credit cards and retail partners

Our research, including your feedback, is that Reward seats were frustratingly difficult to find, let alone redeem.
Our redemption seat availability has been awarded #1 in Asia/Pacific by EzRez already this year, we have the lowest points redemption price for Reward Seats and now we allow members to redeem their Points for Any Seat with Virgin Australia, our international airline partners or any other airline around the world.

We’ve also taken on the feedback that our frequent travellers are also family orientated people, so we are introducing a range of new benefits designed to support those of you with families.
Families will soon be able to automatically pool their Points and Status Credits, so you can upgrade to the next level of membership faster.
Parents will also be able to pause their membership for six months for parental leave without losing their status.
For the “super-traveller” there is also the ability to earn your companion a complimentary Gold or Platinum membership.

Also coming soon, you will receive a complimentary Lounge pass for every 100 Status Credits you earn as a thank you for flying with us and our partners.

We hinted at its arrival a few months back, and today we officially launch our new Platinum membership, providing new frequent flyer benefits, including:
• Guaranteed Reward Seats for international travel
• Complimentary fare upgrades
• Priority treatment with Virgin Australia and our international network of airline partners including access to some of the world’s best lounges and priority check-in, boarding and baggage
• Platinum membership with one of our car hire and accommodation partners
• 100% Points bonus when you fly with the Virgin Australia group of airlines or use one of our participating travel partners
• Ability to earn Gold or Platinum membership for a companion

“We introduced the Platinum tier to recognise those members who travel with us frequently and reward their loyalty with the ultimate travel experience and extra benefits that they deserve” - John Borghetti

If you are not a member, now is the time to join Velocity Frequent Flyer.

[-]We will be, for a limited time, matching your status should you be with another frequent flyer program (excluding selected alliance partners) – details and conditions on this promotion can be found at our website here.[/-]

We are extremely excited about these changes, and look forward to hearing what you all think.

We appreciate those loyal Virgin advocates who have supported us for a significant length of time, these changes and additional benefits are for you to enjoy.

For those frequent flyers with other programs, we’d like to ask you the question “What has your frequent flyer program done for you lately?”

“What has your frequent flyer program done for you lately?”

I came within a hairs breadth of getting priority boarding on a well known Australian premium airline at the weekend. I say hairs breadth because I'm sure the chap making the announcement was just about to invite WP's to board when the scrum charged the gate.

Looks good. I guess a little testing is required! Looks like it might be time to take up the status match.

Wow, fantastic changes! In particular I approve of

Families will soon be able to automatically pool their Points and Status Credits

Not having to manually move points is a nice touch. Also, does that mean status is shared between say a husband and wife? Or does it pool towards one person's velocity account?

Great news!!

Now to read all the info and understand the news system. And of course, how to make it benefit me the more. :D

"Our redemption seat availability has been awarded #1 in Asia/Pacific by EzRez already this year, we have the lowest points redemption price for Reward Seats and now we allow members to redeem their Points for Any Seat with Virgin Australia, our international airline partners or any other airline around the world."

Sounds amazing, but how will that work??

Whats the qualification/requal level for Plat and for those that have received a status match previously, will the fact they are are WP mean a reassessment for their DJ status?

Great news!

I've been waiting for another status match so I could get some of my loyal clients away from QF.

Sounds exciting.

Love the idea of pooled Status Credits within a family, very interesting.

I noticed Transfer of points between families are already setup. Maybe that's the way family can pull their points together?

I have already done some points transfer between my wife and I yesterday.

Noticed there is a new 'Additional Sectors required' condition on maintaining/upgrading status. What's that all about?

so if you are a QF WP and was comp'd to DJ gold will you get comp'd to DJ WP???

Velocity Rewards,

An excellent setup which hopefully will shush a few of the cynics out there.

I look forward to watching this all evolve. :D

That may well be a reference to a link with a relaunched Fly Buys card.
Guess we will have to wait and see.

so if you are a QF WP and was comp'd to DJ gold will you get comp'd to DJ WP???

That's the million dollar question that I'm hoping will be answered in the positive :D

I was already saying last night at drinks in the lounge that as a result of the good will shown by Virgin this year that I vow to direct ALL of my domestic flying, where possible to Virgin from this point on. A platinum status match is just the icing on the cake.

For those frequent flyers with other programs, we’d like to ask you the question “What has your frequent flyer program done for you lately?”

Absolutely nothing, other than "enhance" away lot's of the good stuff. Go get 'em Virgin. Although next I'll be hitting you up about your international alliance partners, need to find out if you can get me to Europe/US as seamlessly as QF can with oneWorld.
