Delta Comfort Plus SC earn with VA

Hey everyone,

I'm new to flying DL and crediting to VA and got a little confused with how DL Comfort+ will earn on VA. I checked the earning table and it says W class earns at Y+ rates but only if it's a codeshare operated by VA. So how does a domestic US Comfort+ fare booking into W earn with VA? Discount Y, Full Y or Y+?

Be interested to know myself and hopefully will find out in a week or so. I've got a LAX-JFK Delta VA codeshare at 0730 hours on the 29th. This morning I logged into the Delta app and was able to select Comfort+ for free (whereas for last week or so of trying was $137). So that's either T-72 measured in AU hours or T-48 using international-date-line adjusted hours ...or something, who knows?!

As for earning I would be going no further than that published for fare buckets

If you booked a Y fare and select a Comfort+ seat for free I think you'll earn based on your ticketed booking class, essentially just like any other free upgrade. I'm looking at booking directly into Comfort+ and not just booking Y and selecting Comfort+ at T-X.

According to the tables, W only earns at Y+ rates if it's a codeshare operated by VA... Otherwise W class is not listed.

... I do expect velocity to catch up but until then be very very careful.

If you book Comfort+ from the get go directly it books into W. DL were the first to separate these better seats into its own booking class. The question then becomes what does these fare earn on VA, cause it seems VA are behind the ball in terms of their earning tables saying DL W class only earns if it's a codeshare operated by VA. DL have separated Comfort+ into it's own category in their tables as well.

I naively went and booked multiple W class seats and then read your post!

So I've reached out to Velocity and got a call back today. Not promising (yet). They said yes indeed, no points or SCs on W class! I asked when it would be looked and she said they will escalate to management and if there is an update they will contact me. Does not make sense that you get points and SCs for the back door, but not if you choose to pay more. Hopefully they'll catch up in time.

Depends on when you booked last year, IIRC the switch to DL making Comfort+ its own class wasn't until late last year. Or possibly you booked Y and because of your VA status DL allowed you to select seats in Comfort+.

Edit: Did some digging and found that the announcements were made late last year, November-ish to affect flights from 16 May 2016 onwards.

I've attached a screengrab of a random LAX-SFO dummy booking to show how Delta now work things; an additional US$40 (or thereabouts) to book Comfort+ (W) as opposed to Main Cabin (T class).

Having just seen this thread, I'll also be contacting VA to apply some pressure to recognise Delta's W class directly - booking into T class in my example would earn at 0.5 VFF points per mile, yet a more expensive W fare class earns nothing!

Yikes! I'm looking at that exact route in June and it's US$123 ow and $20 more for Comfort+.

I'd still take that with a grain of salt until VA comes up with an updated earnings table.

I would screen print that response and keep it up your sleeve just incase they don't come through with the points...

I think the Delta website is quoting the two-way price in the screengrab, which would fit with +$20 o/w......

Can the VFF rep on this site confirm that Comfort+ (W) class booked on the Delta website for flight(s) on Delta metal WILL earn Velocity points (at 1.25 per mile) AND SC's? I'll try sending a PM pointing to this thread to see whether they can confirm things.......
