Delta Comfort Plus SC earn with VA

FWIW, we are flying quite a few US domestic sectors with DL in August - the fare basis ranges from U to V. We booked directly through Delta website and used our Velocity numbers at the time of booking. I don't know if we will earn any points/SC, but I am happy to post results (if any) when available. From what I can interpret with Velocity T&C's - there is a .5 point per mile earn for Velocity Gold members when flying DL domestic U,V. Does this make any sense?

Anyone asked Delta? They can't update on behalf of VA directly, but if anybody cares, DL should... since being non-earning means you're less likely to buy those W fares from them!

Yes I called Delta on the request of VA call centre. Initially I thought is was a pointless idea.

You see Delta don't really have a clue what a "Status Credit" is as their program does not have that terminology. They certainly have very little understanding of the velocity program.

VA must really decide what they will allow members to earn based on DL fare information etc etc.

In simple terms VA management could pick up the phone and sort it out with DL guru's. It cannot be this hard.

DL flights in "U" and "V" you will earn status at the discount economy rate

As far as points it should be 0.5 points per mile flown

Do anyone know from experience what fare class Comfort+ falls into when upgrading on pre May 16th flights?

Say for example, if I purchase a V class fare and upgrade to Comfort+ does it stay as a V fare?

Cheers.

How did you upgrade? Cash, points etc...?

A paid upgrade at seat select. Pre May 16th DL sells this as an "ancillary seat product", similar I guess to VA charging you for an exit row. Is it a safe assumption that as such it wouldn't upgrade your original fare class?

I fall into this bracket ... When I go into the reservation is states the class is "W" (which is the new class). The receipt (as produced at time of booking) naturally reflects "V" (discount economy) class with Comfort+ seat selection.

I think you are correct unfortunately...

I think so too. Also looking at Delta earn for Skymiles ( https://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/skymiles/earn-miles/earn-miles-with-delta.html ) they separate out the two "W" classes ( VA PE, DL Comfort+) and DL Comfort+ qualification miles are the same as discount economy .. So my bets are US domestic W class on Delta is the same as "Discount Economy" on Velocity to earn status credits and points earn (effective June 2015 table https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Earn/Airlines/PointsEarn ).

I've flown 12 sectors with Delta over the past three weeks, all economy upgraded to Comfort+. I can find no mention of fare class on any of the docos, however I've been very suprised to earn 20sc on the majority of those sectors.

We have 5/6 sectors in economy during our stay in August. Our itinerary (or confirmation page) from Delta has the flights itemised, with a teeeeeeny tiny (U) next the Main Cabin. It' so small you can easily miss it.

Ausbt, your SC earn is quite exciting news, because it confirms to me that we will indeed, earn on those sectors! Husband should move to WP while we're there, but I doubt his account will be updated during that time.

Hmmm, that's a whole new question to ask the forum..........

It is not the Ausbt comment that confirms SC earn.

The velocity chart clearly shows all DL earning classes as per this link. https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Info/StatusEarnFareClass/

We actually do not know the fare class or the sector length that Ausbt has flown.

If you book directly on DL it shows you at the time of booking which fare class you are booking.

If you then use the Delta App as a guest and enter your confirmations it also shows you the fare class. ( See pic )

You will receive status credits and points on any DL paid fare.
The question is really for those who have booked and paid for Comfort+ or a paid to upgrade to Comfort+ is: "What is the earn rate for points and Status Credits?"

FYI, for "U" class fare the earn rates on the Velocity website are correct as there is no change.

Indeed. Can Ausbt confirm fare class and distance flown per sector please?

I'm really struggling to determine Fare Basis on this one. It simply isn't mentioned on the docos I have but others here might make some sense of it. Below is the Newark-Detroit-Traverse City leg and you can see from the table in my Velocity account 20 sc per sectors (2) but only 488 & 207 miles flown. Certainly not a cheap fare at USD $433.49 (the return sectors were USD $600) but it was booked only a week out. That was the cheapest fare available at the time of booking.

Fare basis is HA0NA0MQ, so it's a H fare bucket.

Well there is no doubt that Comfort+ opens for Platinums precisely at T-72. I was just sitting here and got a flight reminder emailed to me. I'd been in the app earlier and it was an AUD$127 JFK-LAX upgrade. Now it's free. Wasted no time in locking in that Comfort+ window seat.

That will be my 18th sector with Delta in three weeks. Makes you really appreciate Virgin (...ok, grudgingly I'll acknowledge Q as well). Key differences:

* no one checks your BP as you board the plane, it's all on the gate agent the crew don't care
* the safety demo is a joke
* a guy in my exit row today had his backpack between his feet and was manspreading into me
* "warning: wind shear", "warning: wind shear". Yes more than once have I boarded and heard coughpit warnings - what, are they testing the system?
*
amused to hear the cabin manager say "this is a quiet flight, feel free to move to another row everyone". A guy then moves to an exit and others move around. 10 mins later the pilot comes on "we are a little unbalanced folks, I need 2 volunteers from the first three row to move to the back 3 rows". Amazingly, they did without complaining.
* experienced the worst turbulence I've felt (but still probably wasn't that bad).
* boarding process: 1st - calling those with infants/need special help. 2nd - military personnel in uniform. 3rd - Medallion Elite / First Class. 4th (oh please when will it end?) Sky Priority. 5th - everyone else.
* carry on luggage: even worse than you've heard
* people already sitting in you seat and you challenge them (politely). "What's he sayaaahhing?"
* mini-bottles of Jack Daniels. Very good. 'Snacks' - abysmal, makes Virgin's effort look like a degustation. Although you can get a lot of them.
* lounges: bloody marys mmm. Tipping sux. Breakfast appalling. Lunch and later quite ok. Coffee ...that's not coffee.
* flight costs - geeze, did I really just pay AUD$700 for this?

That next Saver Light I book into a Golden Triangle sector seated Row 3 is going to bring a smile to my face, that's for sure.

Oh, too funny AND sad all at the same time Ausbt! Guess we'd better bring our sense of humour when we board. And yes, those poor Americans really struggle with our vernacular, don't they? I've learnt to speak reaaaaal s-l-o-w when conversing while in the States.

On a serious note, I really need to put my expectations of domestic flying in perspective after reading this. I've still got this grand illusion that everyone on board a plane is actually enjoying themselves.

I thought I was the only one who goes to Traverse City.

How nice is it? The Peninsula is absolutely stunning. I'd never even heard of it before. I took a drive along the lakeshore, couldn't believe how beautiful the setting was. Plus wineries. Reminds me a little of Waiheke Island actually. And newmarket we are still in the minority up there: had many comments that "we don't get many Australians up here". There is good reason to go.
