Thought it might be a good idea anyway, if say the Virgin Australia rep (or anyone else) could help answer any queries from when one is operating on a certain route if a member say posts the day before on here.

I guess this is more situated for MEL-SYD-BNE-OOL high frequency routes which make a PE booking easy to change in some instances the next flight is in 15mins.

Current BSI Rego's
VH-YFC
VH-YFE
VH-YFF
VH-YVA
VH-YIA

For your info, BSI stands for "Boeing Sky Interior", or the planes with the nice seats up front!

To get the ball rolling looking for any movements of the newbies tomorrow evening SYD-MEL?

The rego of the flight is not known until the day of travel, there can always be changes to the operating route, amount of pax etc. Good luck!

Great idea for a thread. I'm always trying to get on BSI flights.

However, internally, Virgin don't publish which aircraft are operating which flights until that day starts (Ie midnight) so its very hard to know if you are on a BSI flight until the day of travel.

Sorry Jack but that is not correct, DJ ops will have an aircraft schedule for at least a week out in terms of where and when it will be going, punters can work out the config when checking in by looking at the seat maps, BSI has exit rows 13 and 14 while the old style have 14/15 exit rows.

Actually no, only in some cases they will have the rego because that flight may only be operated by 1 type, example NTL-BNE-NTL is an E190 always unless overbooked or other reasons. So yes they will know more then 24 hours in advance. But the majority of times example a SYD-MEL run, 2 days before the flight there is 130 people booked on it, so its a 737-700, next day, it has 165 people on it, so it is changed to a 737-800, then they find the rego to operate that flight and the rest of the connecting flights. Now this is coming from a SYD dispatch worker i know. Another example is i was meant to have VH-VBB (737-700) 1 day before the flight. On the morning it was changed to VH-VOW (737-800). So please dont tell me i am wrong. As for the rows, yes when you web check in if it is rows 1-26 it is an E190, Rows 1-24, 737-700 and 1-30 737-800.

Now, that is useful to know. But i assume it doesn't come up til OLCI opens? Is there anywhere else i can find it. Handy when trying to decide whether to do a P/E upgrade -- if indeed i can do P/E upgrade.

Jack, you are wrong, how else would the seat maps be loaded for checkin if the regos are not known the day before given the different configs and the fact you check in 24 hours ahead,(hint they are different for BSI)? Sure things change but in a lot of ports they cannot change, its only one aircraft over-nighting ;).

Does expertflyer have DJ seatmaps?

If you call up the Velocity Gold helpdesk, they can now allocate a seat for you. Even before -24.

There's a useful tip. I didn't know you could do that.

That is useful. I wonder if you can get seat allocation and still do a taster upgrade/get an op-up.

I've done a taster upgrade after OLCI before. They reverse your check-in then apply the upgrade.

I concur as I have done the same but I have had some guest centre agents say it can't be done. simple, solution you just call back and try for someone new who kniows what they are doing. This applies to PE tasters too. had a case last month on a BNE-PER trip, first call no seats availble, fully sold out. Called back got someone else and all of a sudden it was not a problem, go figure. When I was on the plane, I was the only PE traveller. Just proves that there are people in VA who just don't give a s**t about customers. Hopefully with the new gold centre things are changing (and from my experience so far, i think they have)my apologies for going a bit off topic!

PS new VSI planes rock!

Funny how that works. I've had the same, at times. One saying "can't be done" and then ring back to find it can. Once though, when I rang back the second lady sternly said "I see by your file notes that you just phoned before and asked about this" (for the record I was heading to the airport early and was calling to see if I could get an earlier flight home........on a GO fare ) and refused me for a second time. I got to the airport and asked the check-in guy who dithered just a bit but then said "Yes we do have spare seats and moved me anyway". I do accept the umpires decision, but I don't mind debating with them for just a tad ;).

Now to keep on thread, yes I agree BSI do indeed rock! (I don't think Boeing will appreciate you calling their sky interior layout a VSI (Virgin Sky Interior )!

YFE just rolled into MEL, although it seems to have gone to the wrong gate :( (or maybe it's going somewhere different to me!)
