May as well have a DJ thread, at least two AFF members were lucky today, with myself being one of them MEL to ADL, with full PE benefits. Had Row 3 to myself DRW-MEL which was not bad and seem to be consistanly getting it now, which is nice with the legroom.

Great idea! I have been allocated 1D (no PE perks) regularly recently and get 3D as a matter of course these days.

But [At the risk of thread drift and for fear of sounding like a militant pro-DJer] how come the Qantas op-up thread is listed under "Open Discussion" while this one is in the Virgin Australia Velocity section?

It would be great to see both threads in the one place - might give both airlines some strong incentive to work harder if they are being openly compared.

Whilst over a year ago - SYD-PER, upgraded to Premium Economy.

Got told at the gate it was seat only. Onboard I must have caught the eye of a staff member, as I got full PE treatment. And a phone number.

Wow, that is GOLD treatment.... just got my gold card in the mail Friday, so looking forward to the extra service....

Congratulations, don't forget to change your profile.
Also looking forward to some GOLD treatment.

I don't know if it counts as op up - but I have pretty much got 3D on every flight this year - nearly always on the cheapest available fare.

Last few weeks usually a FA will come up and suggest moving a row back or so if there is a completely empty row to have "more room". Last month the gentleman in 3C and i were both sitting in full rows. FA advised us after seat belt sign was off to move to row 5 where both rows were entirely empty and we could have it to ourselves. Nice little touches like that make a huge difference.

Still, its better when no-one is sitting in PE at all - as you get the full attention and inevitable free drink/icecream, etc. :)

The phone number is great service indeed. Alas - I think my time for getting phone numbers from FAs died a painful death in my twenties ;)

Lucky you! (and I'm referring to the phone number)

I have recently had a number of 3A or 3 F seating allocations, and twice whilst on board have been moved into Row 1 or 2, however today's experience is the best so far.

Checking in for a flight tomorrow from HBA to MEL I was allocated 2D on OLCI. The seat map clearly shows this as PE, and middle seats are blocked, so will wait to see if this really is PE.

The flight looks relatively open, with a very wide Fare Bucket available, and PE seats still for sale.

I must say that 4 years of Virgin Gold has seen more benefits in the past 6 months than the previous 3 years!

So not only was I lucky enough to be upgraded, but was upgraded on the new Aircraft.

There was a delay out of Hobart this morning, as the is a tech issue with a light on the wing which necessitated daylight hours flying only (which may be why it is still on tarmac in Melbourne at the moment)

I love the new Business Class. Great seats, very quiet and a great competitive product!

I want to know what was the result of the follow up with the phone number?

Got an Op-Up yesterday going SYD/MEL.

Got a phone call at 1pm ish saying my 5.15 flight was cancelled and what i wanted to be changed to, went on 868 (which ended up leaving at 5.30) was in 1F at Check in.

got my name called at the gate, was thinking there goes the op-up, end up in 2F.

A nice unwelcome surprise, leg room was great, but still the same rock hard seat. with the table/divider in the middle seat.

I flew 43 times last year MEL-SYD-MEL with QF and never once got an op-up, only done half a dozen DJ this year and pulled one.

Nice work DJ.

Y > PE AUH-SYD last week was a welcome surprise. Really good service.

Row 4 or 3 the last few times on domestics - not really an op-up as no PE service, but having a row to yourself is still pretty good.

For those that don't already know.

DJ528, assigned seat 5F, called at the gate and moved to 1F, J seat with Y service.
DJ535, OLCI seat 5C, changed at lounge to 3C, once onboard the F/A moved me to 1F. Received Y service.

Hint: If you want Y+ service on a Y fare, find a way to be seated next to a PE paying pax. According to Cabin Crew, if your seated next to someone who is on a PE fare, you'll receive free food/drink too.

They'll only seat you next to someone in PE if the aircraft is full.

I guess when it comes to airlines - we should never come to expect consistency ;)

After posting here about common seating in row 3 - murphy's law came into play and my next 4 flights had me in row 5 (and one in row 9). I couldn't choose row 3 but they were always empty. I cottoned on by asking in lounge could they move me to row 3 - which they did last flight. Two of those flights were totally empty in rows 1,2 and 3....

Checking in online today for tomorrow's flight and I have automatically been placed in row 3 again  Not that I am complaining.

It's been a while since I got a free drink/snack or asked to move seats so it must really depend on the crew you get. Of course I have no complaints at all - just pointing out that we should never expect to receive that for which we have not paid.

On a side note - the time I was put in seat 5/9 was on a more expensive fare (about $320 one way I think) but the auto-placement in row 3 is almost always on Go Fares?!

Gotta love airlines :)

PS: If any FAs are reading this - happy to be in 1C/1D again for tomorrow's DJ815 ;)

Dj813 on Thurs 17th service cancelled for MEL SYD. I was automatically moved to the DJ811 7am service. The lounge angel moved me to seat 2d....

Return trip today on DJ 846... Checked in at the SYD lounge premium entry and the lounge angel mentioned that the flight was quite full so moved me to 1D....
No premium service for either flight..

2 from 2 for this little GOLD duck.... :)

OOL-SYD rtn on Wed...........any op-ups greatly appreciated :D.

22/5 OOL-SYD-OOL. OLCI on the 21st and a had pre-assigned 1D, thought was pretty of DJ. On boarding was given a new boarding pass 3C and was told they had to move my original pre-assigned seat as it was a PE seat. All PE seats empty on way down :confused:.

Would have thought all those plats would be feeling the love ;)?

Slummed it out in 3C this morning. OOL-MEL. Checked in before I hit Plat so my boarding pass still said Gold. At 6am this morning I couldn't be bothered finding the service desk and asking for a reprint.

Will see how my flight home goes this afternoon.
