Just an observation. Is anyone actually happy around here? Nearly every thread is whinging and moaning about something these days. This place used to be informative and friendly. Now it seems everyone just whinges and coughes.
I used to frequent here daily, now I'm lucky to even look at this site once a week if that. Have noticed a lot of regulars have disappeared last 6 mths or so as well

Oh the irony, a thread whinging about the whingers and their whinging threads...

Well, I'm pretty happy here, and also not whinging, despite being a pom...

Have a happy and wonderful day, and consider the glass half full!

Well I am happy after gaining a 100,000 free QFF points this week. Plus No 1 daughter should gain 50K free too.

Plus $40 free on my two 28 Degree cards.

I think a lot of the people are happy, helpful and not whinging. Bear in mind the last 12 months have seen major changes to multiple programs, and it is pretty hard to be positive about most of these.

As things settle down there may be less negativity, but it seems mostly informative still, to me.

I have found the same.

My posting rate and amount of time I have spent on AFF has been very limited the last 6 weeks or so.

Takes a whinge to talk about a whinging, yes the irony ;)

That said, some whingeing is warranted, some aren't. The ones that I think is warranted I would read and follow. The latter, well, just move on I'd say. Nobody is forcing you to read any thread you don't want to read.

Seems the same to me.

It appears some regulars moved on but appear to be coming back. The grass is not always greener.....

Some are serial whingers, mostly about QF.
There are still plenty of informative threads here, just look for the ones that are relevant to you.
Some members are moving on and new members are joining, it's all good, take it easy :)

I think a pertinent feature of today's society - more particularly the English / Anglo-Saxon, capitalist democratic one - is that you hardly recognise or discuss successes or virtues these days.

Hence, nearly all of the threads here are usually set-in by virtue of a grievance, just as much as you are more likely to be in trouble than not when summoned to appear before your superior.

I think there are a couple of threads around the place which actually encourage people to post when they have had a good experience on board (and perhaps when we stay in hotels). If people were a bit more positively disposed (and we had more time, perhaps), it should probably be a lot longer, unless we are truly a band of sullen and hypercritical flyers / hotel patrons.

I find by and large a lot of contributions are still quite positive, and occasionally even the negative stuff is actually reasonable criticism. If you want to avoid whinging just filter out threads that have the words "simpler and fairer", "priority boarding", "Jetstar", "Allan Joyce" or "fuel surcharge" in them and the rest will be OK :-)

I think a lot of people are fed up with the seemingly one way direction QF have been going for the last 5 years with the management that seems to be a big part of the problem, but the last to have anything down about it...

As someone mentioned many FF and hotel programs have also been devalued in the last year or so...

But yeah over all I'm having some happy moment, just did a thread (which I need to finish) about my European trip in April, more travel coming up, more points being earned etc...

It's all about managing expectations and particularly what value you place on brand loyalty could explain some discontent?

Otherwise I am enjoying and getting on with life !!

I believe there is a big difference between whinging and bashing. I think we are all entitled to a whinge or two, but I really hate "bashing" just for the sake of it

P.S. I love this site, and self censor a lot of what is here.

Sent from my iPad using AustFreqFly mobile app

I've never come across a happier bunch of people paying taxes anywhere. Oh those lovely points!!

Easier said than done...some topics (that interest me) are started with 'good intentions' by an OP...then get 'morphed' into a whingefest/completely different topic, by others, and the OPs 'topic' ceases to exist  ... so I find myself abandoning and stop reading a topic that I had an original interest in...the alternative is reading/sifting through all the 'off topic' posts in the hope of hitting/finding an 'on topic' post:(

While I am not sure where 'the other side' is (AFF pretty much stands alone in its, well, Australian Frequent Flying, space), the thing is people use forums for various reasons. I have been away and come back various times over the years. The 'vibe' of the board has changed over the years, but it is largely driven, I think, by where the community wishes to go.

Human nature is such that people are more likely to complain than praise.
Sometimes a "whinge" is totally justified.
And if I am not liking the whinge I just don't look at that thread again.
Have become very selective in what I read.Probably miss out on a few gems but what the heck.
Still enjoy AFF and tune in most days.

Stumbled across another Aus FF site a little while ago.......recognised loads of handles.

There's no 'me' in 'community' I get happy and stay happy by appreciating the best out of any circumstance and that requires discipline. No one can purify another. Community/society falls within one standard deviation (the 68%), the average people with average concerns and easy buttons to press. That's not the crowd I want to impress and nor should you! Be selective. It's far easier to find a bandwagon of complainers or a group that blogs about certain issues than to find those awesome living life by the clarity of their own example out there on the leading edge types. Many want that but don't know how to get there. I love Qantas, they have their issues but I focus on the good stuff and love the amazing people I encounter when I choose to fly with them around the country or around the world. Air travel would not be the same without them.
