This thread is in honour of JessicaTam who encouraged me to start it.

This evening Mrs Buzzard & I enjoyed a Draytons Bellevue 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Not strictly a Hunter Cab Sav as the grapes are sourced from "....vineyards around Australia."
I only paid about $8 for this bottle as it was part of a Cellarmasters package. Given the price the wine is smooth, fruity, easy drinking and generally not offensive. Went down a treat with a medium rare T Bone off the barby.
The bottle claims to contain "8 standard drinks" but we only got 6 out of it. Feel ripped off I do. Maybe I should lower our standard

Hopefully other AFFers will share some wines on this thread and keep it going for a while. Maybe this will encourage us all to try something different.

I had my second last bottle of Wolf Blass Gold Label Shiraz when I was with friends in HBA recently. Yummy. And only one left now!

If you are going for Margaret River reds start with Cullens and Mosswood and everyone will be happy with you.

Went to the Langtons Classification wine tasting evening the other night. Had a bunch of delicious wine :) The '09 Elderton Command, and the Chris Ringland were highlights. The new Yalumba Octavius and Signature vintages are coming in Oct, and they both look good.

In terms of recently ordered stuff - I tried a couple of bottles of Jim Barry's '08 PB recently - drinking well.

Consumed last night
[h=1]2007 Rockford Cabernet Sauvignon Rifle Range[/h]Mint, cherries, tobacco leaf, bacon fat and lather on the nose. Medium palate full of fruit, hints of vanilla with balanced acid and fine integrated tannins. Good length. Should improve over the next few years with the development of secondary characteristics. 91 points.

I haven't had the 2007 vintage of the Rockford RR myself but I did buy a case of the 2010 vintage (in addition to the Rod & Spur Cab Shiraz). It's a fantastic wine with great cellaring potential (both are). I'm hoping to grab a few bottles of the 2010 Rockford Basket Press from the next mailing list as I've heard from others that it's even better.

Three 2010 Cabernet Sauvignons were compared on Friday night: Wynns Coonawarra Estate Black label, Xanadu, and Chapel Hill The Chosen Gorge Block. I'd say the Xanadu was the best for drinking now and over the next few years (fruit forward and easy to drink). The Black label needs more time in the cellar and _could_ end up being the best of the three. The Chosen was somewhere in between, dark and fruity but didn't wow on the initial sip compared to the Xanadu.

The phrase "x standard drinks" refers to the concentration of alcohol, not the number of glasses you can get out of it... ;)

Went to Werribee mansion on the weekend and stopped for wine tasting at shadowfax winery. I was very impressed and bought a dozen. I would recommend their 2008 Chardonnay, 2011 Geelong Pinot and 2010 'one eye' Heathcote Shiraz.
Qantas pax who fly J may recognize their wines.

Kooyong's Clonale chardonnay from Mornington Penninsula for all the chardy crew. Very nice on a warm sunny spring Sunday in Melbourne. Of course not quite up to Pierro's standard which is the winery Cove forgot to mention next to Cullen in Margaret River! But he was talking red after all ;)

Was that basket pressed?

I didn't think the gold went down well at all. I think the black just passes the taste test!

Shows we are all different.
I am not a big WB fan, but have enjoyed the Gold.

I think this thread will generate some interesting discussions on our preferences.

I had dinner at a friend's place last night and he had received half a dozen of these that he had purchased recently. He asked me to choose the wine to have with dinner - was tempted to try this, as I haven't had it before, but since it was a warm spring evening, I chose a Tuck's Ridge Savagnin, either 2011 or 2012. Was as nice as I remember it when it was purchased (I purchased a bottle too, but drank it long ago!). Currently drinking a Water Wheel Shiraz 2011 - acceptable everyday red (cost about $12.50 in a half dozen from BWS, with 30% off!).

If you are going for Margaret River reds start with Cullens and Mosswood and everyone will be happy with you.

It was too hot to drink red when I was in Margaret River from Boxing day to New Year's day - almost 40C! Can someone please explain how to insert a degree symbol?

If you're after good value big Barossa Shiraz then its hard to go past Cimicky Trumps Shiraz. Dan Murphy's normally have it for less than $15 a bottle and its a great wine from a small family run winery. Also, most vintages of Hare's Chase Shiraz are also excellent and should only set you back about $20 bottle. Consistent 93-94 points from Halliday for both these.

For whites, I am currently on a Riesling streak and find it hard to go past Skillogalee for those. If you like dry whites then Tar & Roses do a great Pinot Grigio and Hewitsons Lulu Sav Blanc is really good too.

I love wine :)
