Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Sorry, should have mentioned that I have already tried that - doesn't work for me in posts.

I will commiserate by selecting a red from my wine fridge which is set to 19° :)

Which one did you select? I'm drinking a 2013 Turkey Flat Rose, since it's such a nice spring evening! Straight from the normal fridge, at about 4 (still not working!). I'm running Windows 7 on an HP laptop, with no separate keypad (if any of that makes a difference!).

I have opened a D'Arenberg 2010 The Footbolt Shiraz and it's very smooth with that typical McLaren Vale peppery shiraz flavour. Most enjoyable
From my desktop keyboard only the right hand numbers keypad work and not the numbers above the letters

Thanks JessicaTam! Found the ° symbol on my iPhone by pressing and holding the number '0'! Now I just have to work out how to get one on my laptop!

If your laptop (Windows?) has a 'blue numeric "keypad" ' hiding under the 789UIOJKLM keys then it's [Fn+Alt] M-J-7-O

2005 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cab Sav last night - just love LE Cab Savs - still think the 2003 was the best.

Agreed. I enjoyed a nice bottle of Leeuwin Estate Art Series with samh004 SNR in BrisVegas a few months back.

However, I tend to think that they aren't quite as good 'value for money' as they once were. Alas, it is still a consistently good (and recognisable) wine.

To celebrate this special day in Melbourne it's only appropriate to open a bottle of 'The National Game' Shiraz.

Cross posted with the vinomofo thread as this was purchased from vinomofo

[h=1]2011 Churchview Estate Zinfandel St Johns Limited Release Margaret River[/h]Rated 88 points

Nose of red berries with a hint of cedar wood and earthiness. Not a massive nose though but enough on offer.

Mouth is interesting. Palate is medium weight and quite well rounded, yet still has a hint of syrupiness to it (but not in a bad way). Bright fruit flavours, heaps of acid and a hint of spicy vanilla (American oak perhaps?). Very little alcohol heat which is impressive given the 16%! Medium to long finish.

Will be interesting to see how this progresses over the years.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Ooh where do I begin....

I'm a big fan of pinot noirs and one of the best drops I've had recently is the Picardy 2008 Pinot Noir from WA. Magic in every mouthful! Otherwise I tend to be inclined towards pinot noirs in the Geelong and Mornington Peninsula regions. Brown Magpie always produces a dependable everyday, easy drinking pinot noir.

My better half is a complete 180 to me when it comes to wine - he's a big fan of big shirazs and cab sauvs. But we've managed to find a beautiful compromise in Tempranillos. It is very hard to find a good Temp in Australia as local winemakes are still grappling with the grape but I can readily recommend Samuel's Gorge in McLaren Vale, which incidentally we discovered on an AFF Gathering back in 2008... see you do learn things other than FF Points at AFF meets!

And if Champagne can be considered a wine, my all time fave is the highly underrated Lenoble Blanc de Blanc 2006. Had a case of a dozen delivered for my 28th bday and we're still working through them! Pity it's so hard to find in wine shops but I note the NV is making its way around restaurant wine lists. Won't say no to a chilled glass of Krug or Billecart-Salmon of course.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Now don't all laugh at once but the Kaiora Bay Reserve Sav Blanc from Aldi is a gorgeous summer drop. $13 a bottle :)
The 2013 has just arrived instore recently. It's a blend from both Awatere and Wairau. If you are a fan of the intensely tropical with a crisp finish typical Marlborough style then I don't think you'll be disappointed, and if you are then you haven't wasted too many dollars
Tastes as good if not better than stuff twice the price.

Armihole is an emerging cool climate wine producing area. It might be a chance to give some a go and report back.

IMHO give Glen Hoya wines a miss (sorry SIL). There is a pink coloured pub in town that I understand has a good selection of wine.

If sister in law responds to sms I shall get back with name of pub.

(Just been told the pub is the White Bull)

White Bull is the best pub in town. It has a great restaurant and a solid wine list

I love the Piccadilly Valley, prior to buying our first place we looked at houses in the area. Petaluma wines are very nice.

Anybody interested in meeting up during January at Rockford's Stonewall room?
As a member I can organise it, would suggest a Saturday or Sunday, perhaps with lunch and more tasting over the road at Charles Melton.
