Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

I stocked up on Cullens Diana M reds from Margaret River this past week. It is a great drop but they seem to get rarer due to usage.

Enjoyed a special milestone at home with Cruiserette on Sat night - this drop takes some beating - shame bottle is so small but!

I found the 2004 la grande dame disappointing. We had it for new years eve and just recently at the veuve cliq visit in reims.

Maybe it's not to mystyle..

Had that '98 LGD about a year ago. What a fantastic wine. Plenty of life in it still. Pity I didn't buy more.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

I purchased some 2008 Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz from epiQure back in June but only tried it for the first time last night.

What a great wine. A big luscious, well made red that has great bouquet and flavour. It ticks all the boxes for me

My favourite wine. Had a '91 recently for a special occasion. Amazing!

One of the good things about getting older as long as you have been a wine buyer is the ability to enjoy some damn good wines that you got at a now seemingly ridiculous price.
Last night was a bottle of 1989 Eileen hardy shiraz.Probably drinking at its peak now.And purchased for a price well south of $20.

Unless you have had optimum storage.. you should.
The bottle of grange that had been kept and kept and… tasted like cardboard with our xmas dinner.. lesson learned.
Wine co's often seem to bring in a new product at a very low price and then work it up.
We bought heaps of E&E Black Pepper Shiraz for peanuts when it was first released.

Your Grange; Did it smell of dump cardboard/wet hessian? If that's the case, probably suffered from TCA. If that was the case, should have returned it to Penfolds. They are pretty good about replacing TCA affected wines from my experience.

Now in 1974 I passed my Physicians exam in Adelaide.to celebrate 3 of us over the course of a lunch which morphed into dinner drank several bottles of Hill of Grace at $6 each.
Infanticide.

Even though some wine makers quote lenghty cellaring times for their wines, I don't keep any for more than 8 - 10 years.
Given that I don't have special storage facilities it's just not worth trying to extract that "extra bit" from the wine.
I also think to myself will I be around to actually drink it ?

It's a while back now, but we all thought that it was probably my poor storage.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

drron have you been in the same time warp as me?
I had the early Grange re-corked at the clinic Penfolds ran and they replaced one with a current vintage. Such a wonderful service unmatched by others.

Anybody interested in meeting up during January at Rockford's Stonewall room?
As a member I can organise it, would suggest a Saturday or Sunday, perhaps with lunch and more tasting over the road at Charles Melton.
Reply here or PM if you prefer...... Buzz

[delayed reply] - Yes...

Dates and transport will take a bit of organising for me, but definitely interested. Perhaps we should gauge interest in Meetings & Social Events?
